Japan is great as a tourist destination. Their equivalents of budget hotel chains, despite being more cramped, are leagues better than the states. Public transit in general is way more safer and cleaner than a ghetto bus/subway or Amtrak. You can good food for a decent value at most places. When you get away from the cities into the more suburbial areas, things just feel a lot more laid-back and chill. Once you realize all the malls and shopping areas have the same exact stores as the cities without the chaos and the annoying tourists, it's like why even go shopping in Tokyo/Osaka anymore.

The big cities are a fucking shit show. I don't know how anyone can enjoy being squished like a bug on mass transit year-round. Also god help you if even a single point on the major train lines goes down, as people found out a few weeks ago when a power outage at one station shut down two of the busiest lines in Tokyo and turned every station into a third-world country (and despite this, most people still went out of their way to go to work)

Despite being weeb paradise, arcades in the big cities are so loud because they cram as much games into one tiny space. I noticed recently that like no one wears any ear protection besides basic non-ANC headphones; I'm convinced many of the young generation will turn deaf earlier.

A lot of the weirdness, people isolating themselves and hoarding can easily be explained by people having special interests.

To be fair, I do think they do have plenty of normal people. But the whole country legit seems to be designed to be thought by brain that was wired with autism to quench their quirks over everyone else.

You'd think Japs would have a big biker culture due to pretty comfortable street sizes and horrific density in subways.

And noise in pachinko parlors is insane, arcade are more manageable. A weird thing is seemingly talking outside is frowned upon but you can set shitty loud commercials on an infinite loop outside your store and that's somehow better.

The consensus from everyone that has actually been there, and is out of the honey moon phase, is that Japan is great to visit, but horrible to live, often bordering in nightmareish.

Unless you can work for an American company or you are rich already so you don’t need to work , then you might avoid most of the pain. But you still have to deal with the fact they are really hard to reach out, and they will never truly accept you. Even other Asians get discriminated.

What chances does a random white guy have?

Pretty much. Tokyo is just horrific in a lot of ways, primarily giving you the sense of non importance, I'd rather live in a black ghetto so at least the sense of danger will prevent me from killing myself.
But outside of Tokyo things aren't as bad, but it will be even harder to find social connections.
 
Japan lives in the past. Without kawaii-crazy media, they'd be as relevant as India. Look at gaming: They're producing inferior consoles, outdated games, and arrogantly strut around knowing the west will accept all their shortcomings.

This is all happening while Western games shoot themselves in the foot as they release Concord after Concord after Concord. The real threat is the Chinese, which have been putting out games that have been eating into Japanese game's market share like the Gacha genre. It's unknown how long this will last, as the CCP will inevitably find a bullshit reason to crack down harder on video games.

Japan has plenty of issues that tend to get swept up and lots of weebs will still defend their national oshi or at best weakly agree that there's issues. Comparing Japan to the absolute niggerhells that are India and post-Mao China outside Beijing and Shanghai? Come on, now.

That said, I would never want to work for a Japanese company. Japan is probably THE most boomer dominated society. You still need to carry a personal stamp for important documents and shit, companies still use fax machines, their entire office culture is based around what worked to pull them out of postwar destruction and holdovers from earlier eras and nobody stopped to take a look as conditions changed. I could go on. I saw someone elsewhere on the Farms once say something like "In 1980, Japan was in the year 2000. Today, they're still in the year 2000."

Personally, I never got the characterization of them being conservative. They have porn plastered all over their streets, with a sizeable population of the women participating, crumbling family units for decades, love of gambling, increased secularization, and an extremely sick work culture. I love Japan, it's a very beautiful country with beautiful people, but their culture is absolutely in a tailspin.

They are conservative in the original sense of the world instead of the American version.

For Japan being conservative just means “change bad.” For America it means “Judeo Christian and traditional family values.”

While weebs, and Redditors whine and moan about it, they unironically would be happier if they were American conservative. Like you said, they have low family values. And too much vices. The only silver lining is that it was what made them resistant to the west’s pressure to make everything woke.

And for the achusally weeb out there, Elder “respect” isn’t “family values”. Family values would be their society not actively sabotaging men and women from having kids, and robbing them of the chance of having loving families.

Japan is a very strange country. They are attempting to make their cities impervious to massive earthquakes and storms, and in those cities they have weird anime sex shit around every corner. They're not India tier but they are their own special brand of pervert that could only exist in a society with technological stability. They have all the financial power in the world (that we give them) but they hate financing and base their economy almost entirely on tourism and entertainment that's a gamble if it makes you feel a blend of disgust and culture shock when viewing it.

A lot of the samurai in both the elite families and lower classes were forced into mercantilism to hold on to their wealth and to survive, and a good number of them joined secret societies/yakuza that ran black market businesses like brothels, money lending, and drug running in and outside of Japan, like in Korea and China. This could explain the rampant sex and gambling industry currently there. A good portion of the black market economy during the imperial era was dominated by military elites raising funds for black ops and other military endeavors, not too different from the practices of the major modern powers right now. You basically had a military society akin to Sparta forced into anglo style liberal capitalism.

Japan is the opposite of the UK. In the case of the UK it was absolutely ruined by the world wars due to anyone capable from the aristocracy dying off (and they never removed the aristocracy influence).

Meanwhile Japan flourished by killing its upper caste so a ton of capable people from the lower castes revitalised its economy and were responsible to leaps in technology. But that age is long gone and Japan is back into being extremely gated by corpos.
