Just finished Thunderball, that was awesome. They tried so hard to make those sharks look dangerous. I had no idea how much comedy these movies had in them, I'm loving Connery in the role, he's almost like a cocky young boy at times.

It's amazing how great these movies look despite their age, it makes the current state of media depressing. Even the parts where its extremely obvious how fake it is, it still just looks better than any current movie trying to do the same things. It's colourful, stylish, everything is "real", they actually blew up a car and numerous boats.

Edit: That guy at the end who helped save them and said he couldnt swim, he never appears again after they jump overboard. He just fucking died without them noticing, didn't he?

https://youtube.com/watch?v=UUnAoLZMezESeries looks pointless.

Game is coming out soonish. I hope it's longer than some of the PS2 era EA classics and doesn't shoehorn in the online crap of the Hitman games.
So long as we can set lobbies to exclude Oddjob, I won't mind.

007: Nightfire and From Russia With Love (the videogame) were both great PS2 games. I'll have to check out N64 Goldeneye also some day.

I think it can't get any better, then You Only Live Twice opens like it's fucking Star Wars with the spaceship hijacking, they lampoon the usual briefing and fooling around with M and Moneypenny, but on a submarine, where he emerges from a fucking mummy in his perfectly neat, clean suit. "Permission to come aboard sir?"

These are the greatest movies ever made. I've never had this much fun watching movies before. Little Nelly is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life.

EDIT: I hate that I've already known the Robbie Williams song for too long to erase that association.

Even though I know its not canon and cannot work with whats presented I am a fan of the Single Timeline Theory where all the Bonds and Ms and Qs etc existed ie Connery Bond was a predecessor to the other Bonds. I especially enjoy viewing the different dynamics through this lense. As an example I prefer to think of Dench M as a single character. Brosnan Bond who was already a veteran 00 when she came aboard is more of a contentious colleague and stands up to and spars with her at an equal level vs Craig Bond who came up under her watch as almost a surrogate mother and is much more dominated by her.

They play into this a bit but I would like for them to do it more. While not exactly confirming it. Maybe Pierce could be the new M? The drawback is it opens things up even further to genderswapping.

The dockyard fight scene stands out for me in that one, a lot of action cinema techniques that became standard in the 70s but were rare (impossible?) to see captured and edited with such finesse at the time.

We almost shat ourselves laughing at Aki's stunt double climbing down the chain. The wig isn't even the same colour. The aerial shots really make this one I think.

The new Bond game had their title sequence reveal. Song is by Lana Del Rey and it's about as bad as you'd expect.

I dunno about you folks but I'm completely over this "female singer breathlessly mumbles her lines like a shy teenage girl getting hit on by the school jock" style of music. Gimme me Tina Turner's Goldeneye or Shirley Manson's The World Is Not Enough any day of the week over this garbage.

I can't make out what shes saying.

Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice have firmly infiltrated my playlist. This however certainly will not.

I really like it tbh, reminds me of "Surrender" in Tomorrow Never Dies or "Nearly Civilized" in Nightfire
Maybe I've just been starved of a Bond intro without that Craig twink

Now I hate Metal Gear as a series however..

HOW THE FUCK DOES METAL GEAR SOLID 3 DO A BETTER JAMES BOND SONG THAN THE JAMES BOND GAME?

The creator of MGS3 is a notorious long time cinephile as well as a Bond fan, he knew how to make a good homage. There's plenty of other great references in that game. The best one is your mission controller (and later overarching villain of the whole series) sperging at you about Bond in a radio call

007: Nightfire and From Russia With Love (the videogame) were both great PS2 games.
Agent Under Fire.
Nightfire.
Everything or Nothing
From Russia with Love.

All top notch games, especially the latter two being Pierce’s true finale with the role and Connery getting to don the tux again.

These games are why I was confused as to when I found out EA was so hated.
“EA? Bad? Didn’t they make the James Bond games?”

I found out really quick tho.

First Light seems to be shaping up to be up there with them but won’t be getting it until I find out from real Bond fans like Calvin if it’s any good.
Bloodstone was great too.

Went back to rewatch Dr. No before From Russia With Love, it is a lot more enjoyable now, in a humble beginnings sort of way.

From Russia was great, I think Donald Grant is my favourite villain so far. I missed the part where he swapped places with Nash on the train, and so I genuinely started gaslighting myself thinking "this can't be the same guy" (Grant), it was almost like his face had changed also on addition to how differently he acted once disguised. The part where he's stalking Bond in the train window and you can see his reflection is really cool. Man was literally of superior skill to Bond. Stalked him the whole movie, played a disguise right in front of his eyes and even succesfully dispelled suspicion before finally catching Bond alone, defenceless and with the Lektor device. Then his hubris got the better of him.

Bond's best villains IMO are the ones that are mirror images of Bond like Red Grant and 006

In other news First Light seems to be looking better and better. I'm still not pre-ordering tho.

I have to ask, what are people's opinions on Never Say Never Again, the unofficial bond film?

I watched it a few years ago. I probably saw it on TV growing up but it wasn't part of my developed James Bond memory. It wasn't very good. There was just something missing. It was like someone trying to make a Bond film with out understanding what made it special or work.

While this isn't all that'd be required. It's be interesting to know what the film would be like with a proper Bond score.

Ironically I quite like George Lazenby as Bond, but On Her Majesty's Secret Service as a whole is lackluster. If it weren't for his and Telly Savales' performances, I might not have finished it.

It's kind of jarring how M, Q and Moneypenney are all the same actors but Bond has changed. She literally says "same old James" to him.
