The Eternal Child by Dr Clive Bromhal is worth a read on the subject. Not the best, but he might be more up your street because while he is an evolutionary biologist, he's not "pro gay" and has been heavily criticised for linking homosexuality to a greater susceptibility to autism.
This isn't revolutionary. Even the Catholic Church admits there are additional functions such as bonding; and some animals like Gibbons for instance rely on this to keep large groups of males in a pack without them murdering each other.
There's also the fact genetic diversity has also resulted in several species in "breeder" and "worker" classes, the latter which still engage in sexual behaviours that don't result in offspring.
I know the Liberal Arts in the US have turned into a propaganda fest but I'd hoped STEM might have fared better.
