We don't actually hate dogs. I've known plenty of people who've kept them and I've kept some before too.
The Bedouins of Arabia used dogs (Salukis) to hunt and were considered important enough to live with indoors. Not only Bedouins of the desert in fact but royalty such as the Mughal Empire have used and respected dogs.

There's also a story where after a prostitute fed a starving dog and provided water for it, went to heaven after she died.

It's really Salafists that fixate on disliking dogs.

How do they square hating music this much with Islam's great musical tradition? At least Puritan music was as unpopular as the overall religion.
 
In Islam, keeping a dog is allowed when the dog's purpose is for hunt, guarding or any kind of work, but not for entertainment or just for company. Keeping a guard dog while living downtown or in a big city is also considered haram. In the above mentioned example, salukis were and are bred for hunting, so they have a purpose that is considered halal.
According to Islam, one could wash a dog with all waters on this planet and it would never be considered pure. The impurity of a dog comes from the dog itself and can only be cleansed by total annihilation. (I am not making this up, this is a fatwa ruling). Everything a dog's drool touches has to be washed seven times. You see where this is going - basically dogs are worse than pigs to salafists. The fact that stray dogs mate on the streets is also part why they are considered impure.
Also, since in Islam good people stick together as well as bad people stick together, keeping an impure creature like a dog means you are impure and infidel as well. Exceptions for hunt or guard dogs have been made specifically, but Islam by no means encourages keeping a dog like in Western culture.

However, those mullahs and other wise men tend to make weird rulings. If you ask if video games in general and GTA series in special are haram, you get tons of different answers, ranging from makruh (not necessary) to haram, and between you are allowed to play GTA V with in-game radio music turned off, no hookers and no gambling (killing is fine).

That's interesting considering that anime is extremely popular in Arabia. Several prominent Saudis are funding a anime studio to open in the area. Soon Muslims will be moving to Japan in bulk and there won't be an anti-immigration country left on earth. And with the aging population, people will beg to let them in like in Germany. Lots of half-Japanese half-Arabs coming your way in a few decades. Good fucking times!

While I am all for lowcowing religions as they are all essentially very laughable, equating IslamQA with Islam more generally as some seem to be doing here, is a bit like saying Theodore Shoebat is representative of mainstream Christianity.

In islamic culture, cats are allowed as pets.

The usual ruling is they are not considered filthy but useful, as they kill mice, rats and snakes. Yet still muslims debate about cat hair and cats vomiting up fur from killed mice/rats.

Mohammad himself - according to Islam - kept cats as pets, basically he was a cat guy amongst other things (like being a pedo).
Another ruling is that if you kill a cat you have to bild 17 mosques to make up for that sin.
The worst ruling about cat (since mullahs tend to disagree with each other out of spite) is maybe that they are not considered pure, but not filthy either. They are rather considered "walking among those who walk between", which still means they have it better than dogs in Islam.

Don't judge me, this is what these people believe. They have no problem in raping women but debate for hours if gelatine in gummi bears is haram or not.
