I have to ask, are you a Muslim trying to defend your own backwards faith, or are you just one of the useful idiots who deserves to be ridiculed in this thread and has never bothered actually learning about Islam before reflexively defending it online?
Jesus, just because being an islamophile is a bad thing doesn't mean you have to virtue signal your frothing hatred of Islam every time the subject comes up. Go hang out with SJWs if you want to live by purity tests.

Salaam alikoum, my brother.

On the subject of burqas and burqa bans:

As you can see I'd already downvoted borkborkborko 19 times previously and tagged him as "Idiot;" he makes stupid posts like this all the time.

Anyway, while it's true that it's mostly right-wingers who support burqa bans and other such things, that's only because left-wingers have become Islamophiles and believe that burqas are about choice.

I know of one Muslim family in which the women were given the choice of wearing a burqa and they didn't. Just the one, and I've known quite a few Muslim families.

it's worse than the ninja one because you're forced to have a shitty grid in front of your eyesight all the time

I always say it's weird how it's the left instead of the right the one that supports Islam, and then ignore all the un-PC stuff radical Islam does: stoning on women, killing gays, slaying of christians and jews...

Because of muh cultural relativism, which does not apply to whites and asians.

I recall a class discussion way back in high school (early 2000s for me) about the nature of culture vs individuality (spoiler because it's a wordy).

(This will touch on refugees but that subject itself isn't really my point.) My teacher posed a question: a girl from another country wants asylum because her dad was forcing her into an arranged marriage, or something like that. Should we accept her as a refugee?

Yes, I said. If she's not a criminal or terrorist and she'll join society productively, let her in, because that's what she wants and she has the right to make up her own mind about her life.

Hold on, said teacher. Individuality is big here in America, but her home culture is far more collectivist. You're not taking cultural relativism into account, he said.

Fuck that, said I. My culture says I respect individuality, so I care more about what she wants than whether she's offending her home society that I'm not even a member of and therefore have no interest in defending myself. I follow my own culture - it's not my place or my job to play caretaker for another culture, especially when one of its own members is telling me it's bad.

...and so on. My teacher was no warrior for any kind of justice - he was a master devil's advocate and his beliefs on anything were difficult to pin down (which I think is a great quality for any teacher). But he (deliberately) made me think: isn't honoring some other culture you don't belong to as a monolith instead of seeing its members as individuals inherently prejudiced? "No no, your skin color is X or you were born in Y, I'm not going to listen to what you say because I know what you really mean."

This was many years before the social justice crusade lit up like a christmas tree and I wonder how that teacher conducts that discussion with students now. If you judge people differently based on immutable characteristics then you are the asshole, right?

How do white guilt warriors nor see this?

It reminds me of native Japanese being told to shut up by Americans when they say they don't mind white people wearing kimono. It's just a complete lack of self awareness coupled with a really misguided attempt to be over the top tolerant because feelings and diversity.

In a normal world feminists would want this woman rescued from being forced to marry a guy who is probably old enough to be her father and end up living a miserable life. But now hijab is freedom and we need to apologise for rapists from places where they don't know any better. It's not up to us westerners to worry about how other cultures might feel about the westernization of refugees coming to us. If anything those countries should wonder about why people want to leave them for freedom elsewhere. There has to be something seriously wrong with your culture if people are dying to flee it.

With the example about the woman being forced into marriage, we are seeing her as an individual because we are American. But yet she has to be seeing herself in a similar way if she doesn't want to be forced to marry against her will and wants a better life. Desire for freedom is a human trait that transcends culture.
