The Hobbit is about a group of dwarves who were kicked out of their homeland a long time ago who one day seek to reclaim their homeland with the help of a wizard and his Hobbit friend. Zionism is about a group of people who were kicked out of their homeland a long time ago who one day sought to reclaim their homeland with the help of Britain and their American friends.

Also like the Jews when the Dwarves reconquered their homeland they shortly thereafter got involved in a multi-front war with the locals who remained in the area instead of doing on diaspora.
But no, Tolkien fucking hated allegories.
The Hobbit was published almost a decade before Israel was founded, though.

The idea was gaining popularity at the time since the Balfour Declaration. The 1930s were full of Jews trying to migrate to British Palestine as well as Zionist terrorists like the Irgun. Is it really too farfetched to believe Tolkien was inspired by these events given he portrayed the dwarves as Jews based on their language and love of gold?

I'm saying that he was unlikely to be directly referencing post-founding events ("they shortly thereafter got involved in a multi-front war with the locals").

The Dwarves are inspired Scots, Tolkien said this…

… they are also inspired by Jews and invented sign language when trying to fuck over humans and elves, much like Jewish traders in the Middle Ages.
