The ultimate debate. Go:

What debate is there? They built a flying tank so durable that it has survived bureaucratic attempts to mothball the plane.

For recruitment videos: Yes

Actual war: Ehh.

Why Ehh? They require total air superiority to do anything. For real war they would be best as American Kamikaze's that break away from formation of an full aerial invasion to go after flak guns and other AA possibly being the guy who intercepts the missile meant for the C-130 full of paratroopers by accident.

this is basically it

they do AMAZING in very limited scenarios (basically infantry support blowing sand niggers to bits in Iraq) so they have a LOT of love from the infantry, because you never even saw an A10 but what it was seriously fucking up someone who was making your day a living hell

whereas basically anything else with wings you either never saw or it was bombing your position by accident

The A-10 as a platform is one of the best for it's roles as an air-to-ground attack vehicle. The fact this plane stayed relevant with the rise of helicopters and hellfire missiles is a testament to it's adaptability and durability.

Of course the nay sayers would bring up "it's useless without air superiority!" Well no shit, it's not made for fighting other jets. It still has a host of defenses against surface-to-air as that's it's job. It's played a vital role in establishing footholds and close air support. Getting mad that it's not a dog fighting bird is like getting mad that warships main guns aren't very good at shooting down aircraft. Not even the politicians have been able to fully retire the A-10, when on paper it should be considered obsolete. Specialized aircraft are made to take advantage of the situation you're in, and not many have done it better than "brrrrrrt" and go. This includes the ability to fly really low and slow with the Warthog being incredibly stable, allowing most rounds on target without much effort or the armament affecting the planes handling.

The A10 is the most efficient way to sow your enemies’ fields with depleted uranium,

Also, for anyone complaining that the A10 needs air superiority to function, ok. The US doesn’t expect to NOT have air superiority in the predominant types of conflicts we’ve been involved in since Vietnam.

A lot of pilots also appreciate having an airframe not just built around a giant autocannon, but also being basically wings welded to a titanium tub that’s very, very survivable.

No not good, even when it was shiny and new.

Cool as hell though, I can see why people want to defend it and it'll be a sad day when it brrtts its last brrrrt.

For a quick "get fucked" across the battle field yes.
For being support/Over-watch... no, flight time sucks harder then your mom can suck a golf ball through a garden hose... That is why SOCOM are now using crop dusters with guns on them. More flight time better OW, lower to the ground and bunch other autistic knowledge I have collected. But still cant beat the Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt
