There are many beautiful things about cinema…

On the one hand, there’s the way that movies can leave audiences utterly transfixed, lost in the thrill of pure entertainment.

Indeed, on the other hand, there’s the way that a crowd of people can watch the very same film and interpret it differently. Movies can affect us all singularly and some can develop their own very personal readings.

One of the common ways in which this is done is through fan theories.

More recently, some have been vocal about their interpretation of How to Train Your Dragon, the 2010 animated movie based on the book of the same name, as well as the protagonist’s – Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III – journey illustrated in the sequels.

So, let’s dive in. Is Hiccup in How to Train Your Dragon trans?

Is Hiccup in How to Train Your Dragon trans?

The creators have not explicitly addressed that the character of Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) is trans.

However, some audiences have understood and argued that the story explored in the film and its sequels serves as a touching trans allegory.

A number of Twitter users have voiced their belief that Hiccup is implied to be trans.

However, one user in particular – Joni, trans bean– offered their thoughts, saying: “Hiccup’s story in the first movie probably isn’t a trans allegory, but there are so many similarities if you think about it.”

They then began to break down the argument in a thread that outlined the following…
Hey How to Train Your Dragon fans:
Hiccup's story in the first movie probably isn't a trans allegory, but there are *so many* similarities if you think about it.
(Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, but here goes!)
A short thread!

Let’s address the theory

Relaying the cohesive points made in the aforementioned thread, the first film begins with Hiccup making his very best attempt to fit in and integrate with those around him.

However, it’s swiftly established that he feels very different from those among his tribe, resulting in a strong feeling of alienation that only grows with his understanding that his parent is frustrated by it.

The pivotal moment comes when the protagonist discovers facts that contradict the norms and values that have been ingrained in him and other members of the tribe. He gains a new perspective as a result, instilling in him a sense of freedom.

Equipped with this new knowledge, he begins to experiment and become happier with who he is. Nevertheless, he does so in secret at first, under the belief that the others won’t be able to handle it or understand.

Yet, despite his best efforts, the others suspect that a change has occurred, eventually to be revealed when he can no longer conform to the societal expectations thrust upon him.

His reveal sadly results in the community shunning him. Fortunately, he is able to express himself further to others, who then begin to understand just how special and happy Hiccup is in the wake of this self-discovery.

Sooner or later, all of the tribe understand that this transformation has been incredibly important, shaping Hiccup into the person they were supposed to become.

He discovers things he's not really supposed to know. Facts contradicting what the norms are believed to be. It changes his whole outlook, and he loves it. In secret, he experiments, and thrives, all because of his new discovery. But he knows he can tell no one.

“I am accepting that as fact now”

Over the months, plenty of fans of the franchise have both reacted and contributed to the fan theory that Hiccup is trans on Twitter.

Check out a selection of tweets:

How dare they blaspheme my boy Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third like this

Dude went from scrawny weakling to capable warrior and viking chief to slam jamming the best viking pussy on Berk

If thats not antithetical to the trans i dont know what is

These people will never be heroes themselves, so they hyperfixate on every heroic character they can draw thin comparisons to. Most people look at characters or people they like or admire and think, “I want to be like that!” These people instead say, “I want that to be like me.” Peak narcissism.

Anyway, the short answer is “No.” Next stupid question.

Wow way to pigeon hole men after the left screamed so much about toxic masculinity. So if they're not big manly men they're just really women? Is that what they're implying?

This is unintentionally really fucking hilarious.

One of the common ways in which this is done is through fan theories.
And for whatever retarded reason you've decided to make an article out of one of these. Which is filled up with utter nonsense.
I applaud to the veggie state of your mind, journoscum. Hang yourself.

No. Next question.
Why the common sense have been sold to whatever eldrich abomination people are bowing to?

Teenager feels slightly different than their peers? Hasn't quite found their place in the world? MUST be trans. It's the only possible explanation. It definitely isn't a normal thing everyone goes through.

Fucking hell, the kid is already a scrawny crippled cuck, can't that be enough?

The more these socialist assholes seek to inject their ideological identities into everything, the more and more the only thing I identify with is the literary work of a late Austrian painter who struggled through two wars and ultimately committed suicide in his grief.

Here is the problem:
Equipped with this new knowledge, he begins to experiment and become happier with who he is.
What most of us normal humans accept as "trans"? A person who claims to have been born a sex they don't identify with, hence they feel happy once they can perform as that sex. That has changed to be "gender" rather than "sex", but so be it. Wanna wear a dress and feel a woman? As long as you don't force others into believing this and don't demand for special rights, I don't give a shit.

But these kids, who for whatever reason are unhappy and quite miserable, think that being trans is to do whatever makes you happy and comfortable with your body... which is not.

So, Hiccup didn't fit within his community and decided to act about it and changed himself for the best while also changing everybody? THEN HE HAS TO BE TRANS!

Wow way to pigeon hole men after the left screamed so much about toxic masculinity. So if they're not big manly men they're just really women? Is that what they're implying?
Their view of toxic masculinity is perhaps the same we all have, but they think all men are like this, a stereotype of a nasty hypersexual jock. Normal men, even (or I'd say "specially") actually masculine men despise that too. And Hiccup IS a masculine man, he's the definition of a chad.

Only because he's a good person who loves his wife and kids and has a playful nature is he a "woman"? Then they don't know many men because most men I know are like this around their kids.

It's just all so tiresome. They want men to have feeeeelings and wear dressed because 'clothes don't have a gender!' But next they tell men who don't fit the so called mold 'secretly transwomen!' Or in Hiccups case 'secretly was a girl!'.

Men are not an actual monolith the same as women. But these reductive trans retards really do keep acting like they are. I feel for the kids of today. They're not being allowed to just be themselves and learn what that is. They're just being told and dictated to by far left weirdos.
