Barb's abusive to Chris. Like, to give an example, if Chris tried to disobey her on a bad day, she'd, hypothetically, flip shit and wreck things. Smash his phone, wreck his room, things like that. I don't believe she's ever struck Chris, necessarily, but she's not against using physical intimidation with Chris.

She usually doesn't need to get physical, however, because she's got other ways to coerce Chris into doing what she wants. Her usual routes are emotional manipulation and threats, like telling Chris she thinks he's going to murder her. Or she'll threaten to murder him. Or she'll threaten suicide. And of course, she threatens to kick him out and change the locks sometimes.
Good lord, I found myself actually feeling sorry for the big lug reading that. If I were him I'd be saving my tugboat and amiibo/medallion money and getting the fuck out of there at the earliest convenience. What do you think makes him stay? Is it the fact that he's unwilling or unable to go through the rigmarole of moving out, or is there some perverse attachment keeping him tethered to Barb?

After reading this I would say keep an eye on the gay club and any related LBGT groups in his area. If he gets better, then you really shouldnt be hearing any issues from these groups. However, if Chris starts to slip back into old ways, we could easily end up in another Gameplace situation, where Chris is only tolerated at these places and does something that pushes someone or the owner over the edge.

The appearance of getting better has to do with a lack of public content, as well as the community paying attention to other eccentric individuals. Many being more interesting than Chris in his present state.

Although he has certainly improved in some areas, I think the community has changed focus more than Chris has personally changed.

I don't know if anyone has made the comparison before, but Barb is little more than the mother in the movie Ordinary People. She's a broken, manipulative woman who can't deal with her own issues but also refuses to help herself and her family pays for it. It's subtle abuse but it's most definitely abuse.

As to Chris "getting better", I'm not sure of that. Most people would be linear progression or like a graph or some sort of chart. I don't think Chris is a very linear type of person though, his Autism and other factors make him a different animal altogether.

Is he better on A Scale Of Chris? Yes. Is he better on a Scale Of Most People? Ehhhhhhhh...

For many, Chris is the lolcow, the one who started it all. Indeed, this place was the former "CWCki Forums" and the only reason we existed.

But save for a few incidents, is Chris (very) slowly becoming more and more..."normal"? I mean, yeah, he's gone full tranny and maced a dude, but he's had the following crucial milestones and all this decade:
  • Had sex. Granted, he had to buy a hooker, but even that's a big step for him as it requires trace amounts of street smarts.
  • Sneaks out behind Barb's back to go to the gay club. He's meeting people, making friends.
  • He's happy with himself. If you read the Autism Papers, he was on an antidepressant ten years ago, so he certainly had his share of depression.
  • He's not engaging the trolls.
  • It's getting pretty damn hard in general to find something truly goofy he does. For a while, we've just had the occasional Facebook post where he complains about something trivial, and quite frankly, that's what a lot of people do with Facebook now. I laughed more at the Facebook of the redneck bail bondsman who raided the Sheriff's house in Arizona than I did at Chris's.
I'm inclined to think that letting himself become a giant weirdo and meeting other people who are tolerant of that has made a big difference in his life, although you'll still see that genuine autism come out in the form of Sonic's blue arms. What do you think?

He's starting to even himself out. Socializing does that. It's pretty much what he always needed.

I'm fine with this. Chris might bless us with a big sperg-out at some point, but I'm more fascinated with the fact that this has led to Chris genuinely becoming a better human being in the long run. He may never not be a lolcow, but if he manages to pull himself back into some level of reasonability for himself..? That's something I can :1: over.

I say "yes" because for once he actually seems to have found some social groups that tolerate him enough to replace his constant yearning for his high school "gal pals" - the fact he knows they were bribed by the school to put up with him having not bothered him a bit - and so in some sense

Weren't they bribed by Bob, not the school?

He should make a video symbolically handing the crown of Queen Of Lolcows to Phil.

Some had already said it but oh well:
Chris is slowly getting better at social interaction, taking small baby steps towards being functional in society, which means he won't have that much trouble to blend in. Yes, he's still messing up from time to time, yes, he still have much work to do but the fact he's going up instead of down, to me is something good.
He won't ever have a "normal life" (hard to point out what is "normal" though) but I'm pretty sure he's in the right path this time. So far he seems happy with what he do and how things are going so far so even if by common standards he's doing weird stuff (like cosplay, for some that's weird) as long as he's happy and not harming someone else, it's cool by me.

Chris is slowly giving us less and less material to laugh at, I won't say that's bad because after all, we always complain at other lolcows for not being able to learn from their mistakes so why get riled up when Chris is indeed learning?. It's a bit sad because we all like to laugh but at the same time it makes me happy that he won't be a lolcow for the rest of his life and move on to be a more or less average guy.

TL;DR version: Chris is in his path to being an average person, in my opinion we should cheer his accomplishment. We have plenty of other lolcows to get our laughs from so there's no loss to mourn.

I think coming out, albeit in his own retarded way, has allowed him to be more confident and happy with who he fundamentally is and to break through his gosh darn autistic shell and be fabulous. :gay: :left:

He's also going to therapy (and not the Rocky kind), so that can't hurt.

I first came to Kiwifarms because of the 12/26/14 incident. I was engrossed with how hilarious and far-fetched his life seemed. Then I dug deeper into his past (thanks to Kiwis and the wiki) and it seemed to become sadder and sadder.

Like a dark comedy turned into a farcical tragedy.

What made me really start to rethink everything about Chris was when I lurked and found the date on this video, http://sonichu.com/cwcki/Song_of_Christian

"My song that I sing, although I talk well,
My peer relationship is low, and my loneliness is off the scale.”

That's pretty sad coming from a 16 year old. I've been there myself at his exact age, but Chris is 33. He's been desolately lonely for half of his entire life according to his own words.

I myself have aspergers. I think the Wiki has helped me steer away from certain autistic behaviors that Chris has been documented doing. However, during my diagnosis of autism, there was a book I came across in the library during my research about my condition that struck me. It was called "There Is A Boy In There"

Underneath the baby fat and grease, haha, there is still a human being underneath it all. I'd think it a poor comparison to relate my own struggles to Chris, but he and I are similar in many ways.

So yeah. I'm not going to start white-knighting, I just wanted to share that. I've been a lurker for, oh, 9 months since the 12/26/14 incident. It's been a real trip.

Perverse attachment, 100%. Chris is like a battered spouse. "She only hits me because she loves me."

Like, don't get me wrong, Barb isn't chimping out every other day. Barb and Chris are normally pretty happy. They're happy as long as Chris does what she says, yields money from his tugboat when Barb demands it*, runs errands on request, etc. And Chris, for his credit, is OK with the situation, because he gets to go around town and sperg out.

Also, I've mentioned this in another thread, but Barb has Chris trained to believe she's this helpless old lady who'll keel over at any moment. Chris believes she needs him, and she loves him and he has to be there for her whenever she calls. That's why Chris wants Cole to take over as Barb's holey buttocks bandager.

The problem, I think, is that Barb has always viewed and treated Chris as a child, and Chris, in turn, acted like a submissive child in their relationship. This video demonstrates the situation. And while that might've made sense in the beginning, there was no plan to wean Chris out of this relationship. Chris is a 33 year old man who is afraid of his mother grounding him.

* Now, I know they should share some expenses because they live together, but because of their relationship, Chris has a lot less control than I think he should.
He should make a video symbolically handing the crown of Queen Of Lolcows to Phil.

He's getting better only if you set the bar very, very low. Which is, admittedly, something - he is getting out, doing things and socializing, and that's certainly good for him. But "better" in his case is still incredibly bizarre and entertaining, so I doubt he'll ever leave lolcow territory.

But yeah other cows (lol Phil) are in comparison doing far worse.

Well, he hasn't gotten into any trouble, that we can tell. That's something. And if making a complete jackass out of himself in public makes him happy -- hey, rock on with your bad self. At least he's having fun. It probably DOES keep him out of trouble, and that's a plus.

Also it's matters of degree, small steps of self-actualization. Chris will never be "okay" by nonlolcow standards because the arc of Christory is long, but it bends :pickle: towards autism.

On the whole, I view it as a mixed bag (for lack of a better term).

One one hand, Chris has been showing some improvement, not a whole lot, but still. He;s finally doing things like leaving the house and doing shit.

On the other hand, there's the Blarms war, and a "funny" aftertaste to him after all this time of being simpleminded and childish. It's to the point where I'm more or less indecisive when it comes to this, hence my mixed bag mindset.

By Chris's standards, yes. By most people's, no.
He seems happier and is socializing more, whether or not the people in the LGBT community accept him genuinely or out of an obligation to just be nice to everyone. But it's better than sulking cooped up in his room.
But he's still Chris, he's still not able to take care of himself and support himself with a job. I don't think he'll ever be able to without someone "normal" to supervise and take care of him. His situation is still dire especially with Barb getting older.

This. I don't think it's been mentioned otherwise, but recall that Chris was compelled to see someone in connection with his court case. If he's seeing a real psychiatrist that may mean getting put on something that stabilizes him a little better. Like maybe he finally got some Cymbalta.

I mean, if you look at it, there's been a striking change in Chris since the last court date. He moved his ass to etsy (where he should've been in the first place), did that cosplay shit, is actually talking about writing more chapters of Sonichu (cue the optimistic ratings), and as far as I can tell hasn't been doing any fucked up call-outs. Has he even been sperging about blarms at a significant level?
