Is Chris "getting better"?

Chris has his ups and downs. He's happy right now. Beneath the surface, though, lurk the same problems which always get him into trouble--egotism, narcissism, autism, anger, and bigotry. Only intensive therapy and medication will help him get better. Maybe he's getting these things right now, or will when he finally completes the boss level in the Albemarle County District Court. Unless he gets persistent psychological treatment, nothing will change.

2014 was the worst year in Christory for OPL, objectively speaking. I say it is worse than 2011, even though Bob died, tomgirl happened, and he tried to kill Snyder. I consider 2014 rock bottom, so I guess 2015 is going better in that regard.
 
Remember that what caused sad-sack never-goes-out Chris was the fact that he didn't have anywhere to go, due to his tendency to get banned from everywhere. He used to hang out at the GamePlace (or whatever the capitalisation was) before he got banned, where he had a number of acquaintances and got to do what he loved doing. Impulse is the same thing writ large - he gets to socialise on the limited level necessary to stop him stewing in bitter loneliness and dressing like a lady is his new Pokemon. The big difference is that he's in a place where he can be weird and loud and creepy without parents complaining to the manager.

Otherwise, he's still an entitled, ungracious, horny brat who spergs about cartoon hedgehogs and believes the world owes him a living.
 
Overall, I think yes. While Chris becoming a normal, well adjusted individual might be ideal, it's probably not going to happen, so I think what he's been up to is the best he can hope for right now. If you just look at the basic things he has been doing, like going out more, making friends, starting up a little entrepreneurial enterprise, then yeah, it looks like he's becoming more normal. But then you look at exactly what each of those entails, and it's pretty clear he's not really any more normal than he was, though in a very different way. At this point, Chris is probably never going to be "normal," and with these recent trends he's becoming more active and looks happier, so I would say his change, even though it didn't make him normal, is a positive thing. Obviously, he still has a long way to go to improve himself more, even following the strange path he's decided on.

then the new sanic drops and chris will drop some 13 page manifesto about SEGA and throw tan paint at the windows of the nearest gamestop.

people have been saying he's dried up since like....2008 when the ED talkpages got deleted. every time things get well and truly dead in the water, something happens. chris finds way.
 
He used to be stupid in his own special autistic way. Now he's just a regular SJW. I'm not sure if this is an improvement.
 
If he's getting better, it's going very slowly. He might be fine by the time barb dies in the year 2046, though.

I think that's just one of those ineffective anti-bully techniques where you teach a kid to pretend he knows what someone "really" means when they say something he doesn't like. He still thinks his customers unfairly hate him. And who can blame him? Look at how they troll him with all their money and charitable donations all the time.
 
Getting out of the hoard for a few hours a week is hardly an improvement. If the courts let him off with a warning, he'll consider himself vindicated from the blue arms thing and go do the same shit in a different store - or the same store if he really is stupid enough - the next time his hedgehog husbando isn't portrayed exactly to his liking.
 
I would definitely say Chris is a lot more confident these days than he was when he first came to the attention of the internet. But is that a good thing? When someone like Chris, who was already kind of an asshole to begin with gets confidence it becomes a major power trip. Whenever Chris is happy/content/confident he is also annoyingly smug and that kind of attitude has turned a lot of potential ass-patters away from him. It's like a cycle: Chris is mopey-the ass patters move in-Chris is smug now-the ass patters leave him----repeat forever.

Well he doesn't have HIV, unlike Phil. He's not fake, unlike Jace. He's not a communist either. He's lost weight. Not on drugs. Stands up for his rights against shopkeers. He's confident enough to wear bizarre clothing no one alive would wish to be caught dead in.

2015 Chris = authentic AS FUCK. :semperfidelis:
 
He is improving but only in little nearly immeasurable ways, he will take a few baby steps forward then take one big step back. The Chris we are seeing now is the Chris that would have happened earlier in Christory if he wasn't controlled as much by Barb. It's nice to see he is going out more an enjoying as much social contact he can handle in any given situation i,e, people not out right being hostile to him, an politely accepting or putting up with him. He's doing what he wants and doing it his own way, and he is being as productive an creative as he can making a little money along the way...

But there is part of me waiting for the other shoe to drop, without fail when he has seemed to make progress or dry up he either blows up some event out of all rational proportion or does something way out of line or unusual (even for him) an rises right back to the top. It'll happen at some point but I'm enjoying happy Chris while it lasts.

I'd agree with that, He lost Bob in the past an got into legal trouble but he lost his comfort zone the one place he felt he could understand inside an out, and that was marginally in his control he also lost a lot of the things that gave him comfort and some self expression.

He is a massive coward, He felt he could get away with using the pepper spray and he did but he quickly got caught up with by the Law an that kinda taught him a lesson, to get him to learn anything it has to be in the narrow window between action an consequence. On Facebook he'd be all bluff an bluster but inside he is bricking it because he has been caught doing a bad thing an he has learned a very specific lesson - "Don't pepper spray manajerks" but he has also learned he will get caught for acting like that and it'll act as a restraint before he acts out with pepper spray again, if ever.

I agree he will yoyo in an out of trouble for the rest of his life, but it will be minor inoffensive stuff but unless he does something REALLY unexpected it won't really feel the pinch of the law as the court system recognises that he has special needs and has a limited intellect and will get lighter treatment because of it.
 
Is Chris getting better? Well, he's still fat, he's still autistic, his duck is still bent, he still poops himself, he still lives at home with Mommy, he doesn't work, he plays with toys all day... I'd have to go with "no".
 
I don't think Chris has improved in any way. All that has happened is that he has become more passive about everything that isn't BLARMS related. He has elected to take the path of least resistance, which is a change that can likely be attributed to his advancing age and decreased energy levels from his prolonged poor diet. Chris is like an old, worn-out car; it's the exact same vehicle that it was twenty years ago, but now you have to spend far longer waggling the keys in the ignition in order to start it up.
 
He's got more of a social life now and is happy for the time being, which is great!

However, Chris being Chris he might do something eventually to fuck it up. I hope he's stopped being overly handsy with female acquaintances. And I also hope Barb has at least a few years left in her.
 
(S)he's getting better in a way that's uniquely OPL. If it'll stay this way or not is up for debate, but there isn't any reason to think it won't.
 
Well... He seems happier. Sonichu is alive in his heart and Chris hasn't gone on a bitter girlfriend rant recently. No mention of Megan in a long time. He's making money by selling medallions, art and amiibos. He's going outside to social gatherings, attended classes and he might have some genuine social interaction from people that arent Barb. So, yeah! He could be "getting better"...

Than again, the Sega glitter bombs and the macing of a hapless Gamestop employee happened relatively recently. Underneath that exotic flirty lesbian exterior, there is still a medallion wearing "THAT IS MY HOUSE!" angry Chris.
