In a climate where Google is actively making its services worse on the grounds that there are no viable alternatives, why is a viable alternative allowed to exist? Better search, better AI, better adblocking, .onion support, etc.

We all know google subsidizes trannyfox because it's cheaper than dealing with antitrust laws, and trannyfox reciprocates by rolling out the same bullshit changes slightly slower, just like the Conservative party. But that strategy ceases to work when a viable alternative exists. So why doesn't Google just buy out Brave and gimp them too?

Is it really just a crypto scheme, or is something else going on?

Brave is company made by the previous owner of mozilla before he wrong thinked and stepped down for his views on gays marrying. I think brave is a private company, so they don't have investors clamoring to make money, meaning they don't have to take that multimillion dollar deal, nor do they need to have googles money since they have their own search engine, whereas mozilla is still being retarded with their money, spending it on charity and social justice activism, instead of building a good web browser.

Just use waterfox. I don't trust new netscape (brave). Never trusted opera either. Mozilla (old new netscape) might be pozzed as a company but their code base isn't.
I never tried it, but you could probably untangle TOR browser from it's tor backend and use that - it also show's you that TOR project the u.s. navy thinks the firefox base is still non-pozzed enough for overseas snitches.
Chrome and it's chromium repository, on the other hand, are so thoroughly pozzed, the ungoogle project (which is bromite's base - which in turn is defunct afaik) switched to running scripts, replacing any and all hardcoded urls (and ips) in the source, when, in the beginning, they would ackshually, manually author it's "feature" set.
I think now, they mostly just unfuck bugs, which come up after deleting fucking everything on autopilot (still a ronorable undertaking).

I still run an old install of Firefox from 2019 and occasionally ungoogled chromium, I'm just curious. Whenever a site stops working I just stop going there.

Not updating your browser for straight up 5 years seems like a good way to get your machine pozzed... please, for the love of god, you aren't one of those people who don't do windows updates either, are you?

I asked brave and got its opinions

I think it's a decent attempt to mess with the browser market. Built-in Tor support, supported paying website owners with crypto, there are some solid ideas that I like. But as with every browser its just basically a chromium based browser that only adds little features so we are still stuck in a monopoly of mozilla vs google.

As for a glow-op I doubt it. Feds don't need to go after your browser company, or in this case brave specifically, they can just go after chromium and probably fuck you up through that.

Brave is the only web browser that isn't complete fucking fucking garbage. Can't even embed image attachments on my posts here in Firefox without the comment box completely turning to shit.

i trust it more than chrome, edge, and opera, but that isnt saying much. i only use it for the few cases where librewolf breaks a site.
Any backdoors placed in the Chromium engine are going to be in Brave, unless the Brave developers go out of their way to do security patches.
I believe that microsoft, besides the ungoogle project may be the only forker who actually unpozzes chromium effectively, because they have interest in taking out the competition and pozzloading it with their own. But as the ungoogle project explains, things are pretty bad if you have to replace/append all hardcoded ips and urls with a signature which in turn tirggers what amounts to an interal firewall when it makes outcalls. As far as I understood, chromium is unhappy if it get's "unresolvable" responses because that would trigger inbuild google dns black magic which in turn would then loop back and/or escalate into further outcall spams if they only deleted the urls and ips without selectively blocking the requests internally.
Chrome really wants to connect us 🌈

I surely hope the windows xp faggots are larping for the lulz here but I'm not so sure. All you e waste hoarders may want to take the spectre and metldown pill asap.

@Wolfmanfur I actually trust most loonix distros way less than up to date corpo editions of windows at this point.
Only alpine, centos and suse seem to be hardened.
All the others are feature creeping toyboxes with no op sec in mind at all.

Does OpenSUSE Leap or Tumbleweed count here?

It's okay I have Norton Antivirus 🙂
Now this is dank.

Anyway OP, you've laid out a convincing argument as to why there will never be a good alternative to google chrome so you might as well just use that. Or maybe skip the hassle and just kill yourself right now.
>t. someone who doesn't even use brave.

Edit to avoid double post:

Excuse me, but my e-waste is not subject to these flaws.
