Is brake checking tailgaters based or gay?

I don't do it myself but being tailgated while going 70 makes it tempting

Really does depend on the reason. Are you failing to maintain highway speed? Almost all States have a law called "Impeding Traffic". You don't HAVE to maintain the posted limit, but unless you have warning signs and hazards on your vehicle (like say a Big Green Tractor) then you have a lawful requirement to pull off the road and let the traffic behind you pass. The tailgating is the polite ask for you to gtfo of the way rather then laying on the horn, the impolite way. This also goes for the left lane in divided highways which is designated primarily for passing and as consequence has an implied speed limit greater then the posted. Its why cops don't pull you over unless you are going more than 10 MPH above the posted. If you going the posted limit in the left lane, you are also impeding in many states and have a lawful requirement to enter the right lane.

Now, if you are maintaining the posted speed, should you brake check? The answer is still no. Its still better to pull aside and let the idiot pass. This feeds into another issue that overly cautious drivers are ironically more dangerous then overly aggressive ones. Most rear end slams on the highway are due to a driver not maintaining the speed of traffic and causing an accordion build up behind them.

100%, there’s so many sanctimonious drivers who feel like they’re the arbiter of road rules or that they need to “teach speeders a lesson” so their solve is just to intentionally be annoying and endanger everyone including themselves, it’s lunacy.

I think in some countries the polite method is to also flick your headlights once
