I've always wanted to punch anyone who played this game. Never liked those "ironic" dating sims since. If you want to be WEIRD and FUNNY you might as well play the actual filthy ones from Japan, you know because that would be "ironic". Same as all those people who have cropped porn or lolicon thumbnails on their youtube videos, absolutely HILARIOUS.

That can be part of it, but it also is demonstrative of crippling insecurity regarding the quality of one's own work. Being direct and attempting to make a work within an established genre means that you can invariably draw comparisons to successful examples of what's being made. This means these people might get criticized according to an existing standard, which they seem to hate more than anything because they usually don't measure up to convention they're not allowed to dictate. There's a generally accepted sentiment that comedic works are allowed to be lower quality, so they can claim it's just irony when called out for cringe writing and shit gameplay then talk out the other side of their mouth when the "media literate" praise their works for being "groundbreaking and subversive."

I have a hard time believing ironic dating sims are still a thing. I hope they aren't; It was always a very "tumblr" thing, with all the baggage emblematic to the "creative" scenes there being reflected in them (in the worst possible ways, of course).

Like with many things most of this comes from weebs growing up and just fundamentally not understanding why dating sims and visual novels are fun escapist fantasies (with occasional really good writing) because they were always insecure about liking them as kids. Throw in the American political slant that they nearly always bring to the table (and probably colors their view of actual Japanese VNs, since despite liking them they probably think they're icky and gross) and you get the modern irony poisoned visual novels.

I don't really think weebs are to blame here, but more what they call tourists nowadays.

Maybe the landscape has fundamentally changed since I was last on 4chan (years and years ago), but I still vividly remember all the waifu wars, endless debates over which anime girl was the best and all the explosions of rage as "worst" girl won. There was always this understanding that anime, like most nerdy stuff, was inherently cringe and pandering to a specific demographic, so you either embrace that aspect of it, or gave up on the whole medium altogether.

I assume the people making this slop are people that watched mainstream stuff like Naruto and One Piece on and off and try to coopt weebery for their own ends, and the subhumans that lose their shit any time they are reminded anime features tits and ass.

Either way, I hate this trend of people only consuming entertainment to laugh at it. What kind of hollow husk of a human do you have to be to waste your life doing something you don't enjoy so you can go on the internet and attempt to impress random strangers with how "mature" and "sophisticated" you are for disdaining trash meant for peasants?

This is actually one of the nastiest traits of liberals, the need to barge into places where they are neither wanted nor welcome. My thought process when encountering something I don't care for, or dislike, is to leave it well-enough alone, but not liberals, they are compelled to screech at people that their hobby is racist/sexist/bigoted etc. and that it should be changed so liberals can feel better about themselves.

I seem to see it as those "weebs" used to like Japanese-related things, but hate them now because Western Woke media has been flopping left and right, while Japanese media (for the most part) hasn't stooped those lows yet. They then make this cringe shit on purpose to give the middle finger to people that like Japanese related-things, while also using it as a coping mechanism for the said Western Woke media flops.

You are definitely supposed to want to bang the dinosaurs in Snoot Game, however. And the other one they made with the wheelchair crocodile. Those games are like crack to born-again tradlarpers who "grew out" of their gooner phase.

I wish VNs weren't considered synonymous with dating sims and anime in the West. I think there's a lot of potential in the medium.
