Baby's First IPod.
Something I didn't realize when I first made this thread (for whatever reason): Those controllers are suppose to resemble the old Intellivision's controllers with that circular D-pad ("the control disc") and those side buttons. However, in lieu of the infamous 12 button keypad, there is a digital screen in its place, which now that I've read your post, does make it look like an iPod. Not to mention, the console itself looks like one of those old iHomes you use to mount your iPod.

Isn't this the system with an exclusive Earthworm Jim game? That's a potential system seller if it's good.

Yeah, but let’s be honest, the number of people who would be interested in a new Earthworm Jim game is still pretty small, all things considered. The character has a decent fan base when compared to other nearly forgotten platformer mascots, but thinking that a ton of people will spend hundreds of dollars to buy a console to play a new game is delusional.

The Amico is built on Android so if this new Earthworm Jim game comes out it's only a matter of time before it's ported to common android systems.

If Earthworm Jim is all they've got then probably not. I haven't been keeping up at all, but looking at the game list it seems like there's maybe some other good games. Wiki says ToeJam & Earl and Caveman Ninja (Joe & Mac) are planned too although I'm not sure if these are new or exclusive (can't imagine they're just dumping old ROMs as games, that'd be laughable). Those three would be pretty solid classic IP revivals.

I'm not into classic arcade games too much myself but the target audience presumably is. The only ones I'd have even a passing interest in would be Burger Time & Frogger (again assuming these aren't just old ROM dumps and are actually exclusive new remakes or sequels).

The price is probably the biggest issue. It'll be launching at around the price of a Switch. They need to be at $99 for impulse purchasers because it's a tough sell against Nintendo.

Anyone else a huge fan of the Original Intellivision? I certainly am. But this thing -- I have some reservations to say the least.

I agree the price needs to be lowered. This thing can't compete with the Switch. It's going to be shelved next to Flashback systems and the Namco & Data East plug & plays. $99 sounds fair.

I can' get over how bad the controllers look. Hope Earthworm Jim 4 and all these other games are ported to a better console, because frankly theres just no way i'm buying this.
They're insane for charging $300 for a console with shitty Android phone guts. It's going to flop worse than the Ouya.

I seem to recall Doug being on Nick Rekieta's stream sometime around when the weeb wars were kicking off and confirming that he wasn't involved with 4 at all, so that's going to be a turnoff for a lot of people who it might be a system seller for otherwise.

This came up on assemblergames back when it was originally announced and IIRC someone looked into TJ&E and found out it was just a port of Back in the Groove with some system-specific upgrades like the present menu being on the controller. Admittedly that'd be pretty convenient for multiplayer but it's still BitG.

Charging 300 dollars for a console with cellphone guts isn't insanity, it's assumed arrogance. You can only do something like that if you have Apple levels of clout.

a glorified Android TV system, down to its unspecified Snapdragon processor and 2 GB RAM (not upgradeable)
Every time you release a modern device with <4GB of memory (ideally eight), the baby jesus gets raped by a pack of wild niggers enraged by the UI hitching and stuttering.

There's no excuse for this, especially given how likely the UI is to be some overwrought piece of webshit.

STOP UNDERSPECCING YOUR SHIT, YOU FUCKS.

I rather get a flashcart for the Intellivision and mess with all the homebrew games than an Ouya copy with keypad controllers. At least the controllers and blockly pixel graphics gives the original Intellivision its charm than this.

When both the Atari VCS and the Intellivision Amico have been released, the battle between the gods can at last begin in earnest. If both Earthworm Jim and Joe & Mac turn out to be exclusives, we can expect a rash of suicides among Nintendo executives.
What retro console do I have to purchase to finally get a new Vectorman?
