I've enjoyed all the mile ovals from this package (except Iowa) and this one was no exception. It is single-file racing for the most part, but getting in clean air gives you a massive run on the car in front and there's always action going on. The best part imo is the part of the race where you get into long runs and start getting into different pit strategies after 2 or 3 pit cycles. Unlike road courses, it's absolutely impossible to follow, but that ups the suspense for a sudden caution turning a longshot pit gamble into a winner. Much better than NASCAR's "wait for the crash/stage caution".

I like how much Fox committed to the NASCAR crossover (and they're also having Indy drivers on TV during the NASCAR race and shilling Arlington every 5 minutes), even if the broadcast quality was absolutely horrendous. 40 laps to get the ticker showing? :story:

It's very comfy. Also note that Sting Ray is as laughable as his name. Will Power is not - some of his behavior aside - even if he's not doing great right now.

I'm in Texas for the race. It's been pretty okay. Seated with a bunch of boomers who seem to know each other and know the sport, that's usually fun.
 
The three darkies pushing the drinks cart across the track happened right in front of where I was in the stands. It was absolutely insane.
 
If you guys ever get the chance, I highly recommend a trip to Barber. Super cool place. The spectator hills are very nice for watching racing and the museum is sick.

I'm starting to think it's going to be my long-distance race next year, especially if they keep it this early.

Also holy shit the wrecks in practice/qualifying.
 
Andretti will not field a 4th car because F2 decided to schedule makeup races in Canada and Herta has to go there.

Well, that blows. We might not get bumping this year unless Prema shows up. I was hoping someone might give Schwartz a one-off entry if Prema can't make it.

Ilott is trying his damnedest to get a ride, with Prema being maybe his best shot.

I want more reporting on Schwartz. And the Prema situation in general - but him in particular. The whole deal coming out about how he was supposedly hating Indycar and wanting out mid season. Like how the fuck? He turned into the golden boy after the 500 pole. If that was true, that is.

There are races that are held in actual dictatorships that not a peep is held because they don't care. I think street races are gimmicky but I think the average redditor is history less don't know of the CART and Indycar split that nearly killed the sport.

If anything they're upset F1 didn't race in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. "No Kings" for orange man but everyone else is OK in their book.

I can only imagine how the family and friends of these people (if they even have family/friends at all) deal with them.
 
Welp. Alex is gone. Guy who really got me hooked on open wheel more than anyone else.
So time to dig in the closet for what to pack for the GP next weekend.
