If you only knew how bad things really are in Tokyo. Don't think this is going to help Honda's 'you can't do this without us we might pull out' talk.

(And yes, half of them are contact but still.)
 
And that was pretty good. I didn't need smug Newgarden, though I was totally happy for him last year, funny how things change. Pato was gutted straight through the press conference after. I'm impressed how much he wants it.

Larson was kind of a bust, I think he needs to try again, this year of experience will do great for him.

I agree. He made two rookie mistakes (the double upshift and the penalty) and I don't think he'll do that again.
 
Race kicked ass, to be honest. I don't really think you could ask for a more competitive race.
Long weather delay was really my only problem with it but what can you do?

I feel as if all the nepotism and ass-kissing in F1 has really allowed Indy Car to have this young explosion of international talent over the last decade. It's becoming a fantastic product.

This is why the Euros are buying into teams, and that.... is probably good for the series.

We just need people to be more fans of indycar and less fans of drinking beer at indy as David Land said yesterday.

It's more that the superlicense requirements say that if you're the champ in Formula 2 or Indycar, you get those 40 points that allow you entry to F1. F2 is already filled to the brim and getting expensive, so Indy is the next best thing for young talent to be on holding pattern until the big phone call comes.

I would expect that the FIA is not going to let up on gimping the superlicense points for Indycar places 2-3, because of that.

True, but it's understandable in the sense that they want to protect their ladder, even if the old ones still remember how guys from F1 could go to CART and vice versa with no issues.
 
So last week, a meh Detroit GP had some spice added when Pourchaire decided to go for a mega divebomb and clunk into a few cars. It was a dumbfuck move befitting a young go-getter trying to prove he's worth a seat on a track where severe divebombing was how you passed. Several drivers were impacted, nothing too bad, these cars are awful tough for open wheel.

Chief amongst those bumped was Augustin Canapino, the great hope of Argentina. The Argie fans, as you'd imagine, took this with good humor.

lmao no of course not. So Theo got mogged non-stop on social media and got the requisite death threats, as happened last year when Callum Ilott dared touch their boy. This escalated steadily with ESPN's Indycar play by play dude for South America doing a mashup of Ilott and Pourchaire's names to fan the flames, some wishy washy responses from the team and Canapino up to and including "What death threats? I didn't see any" when it was fairly provable he had, Canapino replying with a heart emoji to some of the mogging and just general non-response bullshit.

As of yesterday this has become possibly the biggest social media happening to date in racing, IMO surpassing Gragson's Instagram Like and Kyle Larson's Gamer Moment. Basically Canapino's team, JHR, had their technical and commercial ties with Mclaren cut, and the second partner in JHR, Brad Hollinger started taking over the response from the (also Argentine) Ricardo Juncos. At that time, they suspended Canapino for the weekend 'for mental health reasons'. It is a goddamn shitshow that looks to have further implications for the team yet to be seen.

At Road America it's Nolan Siegel, the current up and comer of the feeder series getting more seat time.

I don't even know where to go with my periodic Indycar update. New US TV package - unexpectedly a big win. Moving to Fox, more money, which was the rumor. But an all-network deal for the races. And NXT broadcast on cable. On the NXT side this is 'we have interest from sponsors again' level of big. If they play their cards right or even play them okay this could be the start of the digout for open wheel.

Now, why Nolan? Because he's suddenly, unexpectedly replacing Theo at McLaren. Immediately. He's talented and a pay driver so.. I guess? But why now? Does Zak just want to be seen as the worst person to deal with in a series that has Chip Ganassi and Roger Penske in it? The hell is even going on?

Laguna Seca this weekend, that ought to be good. RA was.
 
Perhaps Theo got a phone call from Renault to get his racing boots on to prep for F1/WEC entry and they want him out of Zak's orbit ASAP to avoid the situation they got with Piastri.

Possible, but Theo's said he's looking for another Indycar ride.

Well, you know what they say. Once is happenstance, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. I remember hearing that they’d signed a contract with Pourchaire already, so either that’s been paid off, was one of those race by race deals, or otherwise is going to come back in the next few weekends.
