Indiana's complicated history with daylight saving time

Daylight Saving Time started as a way to preserve energy and make the most of daylight hours. However in Indiana, it’s been part of a heated debate for nearly 100 years.
Here’s a look at the complicated history with time zones and daylight saving time in Indiana:
1918: Congress approves the Standard Time Act, putting Indiana in the Central Time Zone
1919: Standard Time Act of 1918 repealed
1949: Indiana General Assembly outlaws Daylight Saving Time
1957: New law passed to make Central Time the official time zone of Indiana
1961: Indiana legislature repeals the law made in 1957
1968: Time Life broadcasting leads federal lawsuit to force the observance of DST, and wins
1972: Indiana General Assembly places NW and SW Indiana in the Central Time Zone and the rest of the state on Eastern Time.
2006: The entire state of Indiana becomes the 48th state to observe Daylight Saving Time across the board.
Today: While all of Indiana officially observes Daylight Saving Time, 12 of the 92 counties are on Central Time, with the rest still on Eastern Time.

Seriously though daylight saving is outdated garbage and I wish it would just go away forever.

Sick of politicians talking about getting rid of this horseshit then never doing anything about it. I would support literally any politician that makes good on getting rid of this failed abortion of a policy, they can do whatever else the fuck they want and have my eternal gratitude and support.

Nobody understands this confusing practice or can justify it, we just keep doing it because we've done it for so long. It's a World War I era relic in the US that's heavily disputed as far as benefits go, we need to stop this nonsense nationwide. Wonderland-esque policy that especially screws over large swaths of the nation.

If Arizona can do it, I'm sure the other states can too

My only fear is the mongs in the House forcing permanent DST instead of us just not adjusting our clocks one way or another

I would be totally fine with keeping "winter time" year round, no idea why the time change is needed.

>But the sun would rise at 5am in June

Ok so what? Would be nice to not drive to work in crushing darkness for at least a few months of the year

I too am tired of hearing about how everyone wants to stop the time change every year but then nothing happens.

But I'm also the guy who wants Summer Time all year, so give me your negrates.

I think it's better to have more light later in the day. It getting dark at 4:45 sucks balls, and I couldn't care less if schoolkids have to wait for the bus in the dark, which is one of the main arguments for Standard Time. When is the last time you've seen kids waiting at a bus stop without 10 parents there hanging out talking, or they're all waiting in cars? The South Park setpiece of kids hanging out waiting for the bus with no parents hovering over them is an anachronism that hasn't been true since the turn of the century.

Guys it's an article from 2017 about the history of time zones in the state of Indiana.
