As for 9chan being a "failure", let's be honest about that. Null has a checkered reputation in the chan community that already hobbled him out the gate, he did a poor job of promoting it, and it was obvious he wanted the politics obsessed crowd to use it, but again he left that completely optional and people treated it as such. If he was hoping it would explode and become the politics flytrap, I don't have an Optimistic rating big enough for how naive that was.

As for being pissed about politics seeping into damn near everything, with the rise of SJW culture, where "the personal is the political, and given how it gave rise to opponents who are just as bad in an inverse way, politics becoming omnipresent was universal and bound to become an infected tumor on the discussion of most of the people we cover in some way. Only way to mostly get rid of is to pare down every subforum where it's an issue, which would cut out most of the site entirely. This is a genie that can't be put back into the bottle until we have a culture shift where people left, right, and center quit politisperging about everything.

In short, this is damned near impossible to avoid in this day and age, and while I'd love to go back to a simpler time too, that shit gets tedious to discuss, it's not going to happen anytime soon, hoping otherwise is idiotic.

And since I've been asked to quit being so nice, fine, I will take the gloves off entirely:

Null, some of your biggest problems have happened because you've kicked the can down the road and kept doing it till you smashed into a pile of cans you kicked down the road. A lot of things that became massive problems could've been dealt with earlier, but you only did something when you couldn't ignore it any longer. If you want to be more proactive to make sure this isn't a problem, great, but in this regard, I don't really pity you anymore.

And frankly, I think this place is not long for this world, so I've already planned to move on. If you can keep this place going despite everything, fine, but it's naive as hell to think a lot of crap that warped this site into what it is now can be reverted. There is no time machine, and what you have is what you have, and you can either work with that or shutter this place.
 
Josh if I could, I'd give you a hug right now to cheer you up. I'm grateful you made a place with the nicest assholes on the internet to hang out with. If a break or more hand off approach is what you need, I understand.

Allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morels are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a six cents when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the fax. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

It's not easy to dissect a system as complex as a web community of thousands, but God willing we can rise to the challenge. I pray you reconsider your decision to move on, brother.

You do realize Null runs 9chan, which allows lolicon/shotacon, so long as it remains within legal limits according to US law and is posted in the appropriate areas he has designated. I allow topics like the ones you mentioned to be discussed in the context of how they are used in works of media under the same limitations on my own site, because I believe in the same legal boundaries of free speech being sacrosanct like Null has admitted he's tried to stand up for for the longest time.

Both of us have drawn shit for that, me by having a bunch of disingenuous assholes try to paint me as a degenerate in the same manner Null has been painted as one by his own enemies who want to forget defending free speech means defending speech that is vile, contemptible, and even degenerate, but as long as it's legal to discuss, then it deserves the same protection as speech that does not offend and is pure as the driven snow.

In that regard, he needs no advice whatsoever from me.
