I wonder why he didn't ASK someone to show him how to use it. Or had he alienated everyone at that point? Seems to me that knowing how to photocopy things would be kind of essential back in the 90s before we went mostly digital.
He's completely helpless. He expected someone at that hospital to realize he was wandering around like a lost little lamb and come to his rescue, and he's still butthurt and outraged that it took them eight hours to do so.* He just has a huge entitlement complex and expects everyone else to notice when he's having difficulties and spoon-feed him whatever information or assistance he requires.

It's also possible someone did show him how to use the copier and he still failed to understand and convinced himself that no one had shown him the CORRECT way to use it.

*I just got this really funny mental image of Sweets becoming increasingly agitated as he bumbles around, but still to stubborn/autistic to take the initiative to ask for help, and instead starts occasionally muttering "Tarnation!" and other hillbilly gibberish in a passive-aggressive attempt to make the staff notice and feel sorry for him. It's early and I'm easily amused. :stupid:

I think you hit the nail on the head. In his world view, he shouldn't have to ask for anything, the rest of the world should be attentive to his needs and anticipate his demands. Also, I've never heard the full hospital story. Why was he there in the first place? I've looked through the thread but didn't find that story. Probably missed it.

I know we throw around "autistic" a lot on this forum, but Sweet's aversion to initiating contact to acquire needed information sure points to either autism or social phobia.

I would assume that while outspoken online, he is very meek and quiet IRL.

I don't think any of us have ever heard his voice. I'd love to offer him some money for an interview over Skype, but I doubt he has Paypal to receive funds or an understanding of how Skype works.

And that's why I love Sweet. For a guy who claims to be a staunch conservative, he's basically the right's "Lazy Entitled Liberal" stereotype brought to life.

And I, too, would love to hear the guy's voice, just out of morbid curiosity.

Also, I doubt his ancient computer can run Skype. He lives in a rural area right? He might even still be on dial up.

Well he did say that he got a new PC recently right?

If he could just learn how to freaking use Google he could solve most of these issues himself. But I guess using a search engine is beyond him :'(

I have never seen someone so afraid of learning. It's like he's allergic to new information. Maybe he breaks out into hives or has trouble breathing if he learns a new fact or skill. He should carry an Epi-Pen in case he accidentally learns something.

The hospital really gets me. They aren't hard to leave. Recently I spent some time in the ER and even in excruciating pain and high on morphine I not only found the desk to pay and made it back to the waiting room to the people waiting on me. It's not a maze, there are signs.

No, the story has evolved after Icky realized how incompetent being unable to leave the building made him look. Now he's claiming that the problem was that it was too far to walk/he'd have to walk through an... an... an urban neighborhood.

Oh he did use Google. It's how he found this thread in the first place and made it what it is.

Exactly. He threw in these details and basically expected us to buy this and give him pity/make himself look less incompetent. This of course is still ignoring how he could've just walked home way before it became night and the evil negroes could blend into the surroundings and ambush him (considering how racist he is, I wouldn't be shocked if he thinks this is true).

He's said that he's very sickly, socially phobic, and has a raspy voice due to his laryngitis.

Yet he also had no problem butting into other people's conversations while working at the Herald. More revisionist history from Sweets.

I think he's become gradually like that (giving him the benefit of the doubt, I know, I know...).

Probably my favorite part about his revision. Like we're all afraid of black people like he is.

For what my speculation is worth, this has always struck me as a retcon. He can't admit that he could have done something to help himself but didn't because he was too lazy or disorganized. It must be that he couldn't have helped himself. And, to be fair, there aren't many semi-sane reasons that he couldn't have copied his articles other than that he didn't know how to work a copier.

I think one of my favorite things about sweets is despite how obsessed he is with youth everything from his pop culture references, technical ineptitude, and vernacular make him seem ridiculously old. If you didn't tell me the guy was 40 and just showed me one of his rants I would assume he was in his late 60's early 70's.
