Be sure to check finished auctions to gauge how much things actually sold for, not asking prices.

Yard sale season is coming up, so that's pretty good for buying cheap from people who just want stuff gone.

Whatever your special interest area of expertise, I wouldn't bother with professionally-staged estate sales, the kind that are in the paper and Craigslist as "another great sale by ~Isabelle's Treasures~ ON SITE SECURITY" etc. They already price-checked everything.
