The creation of the "thing, Japan" meme is proof, as are the way weebs meme on Japanese politics (albeit in a surface level way), still travel to Japan en masse, and eat Japanese food for no reason. Weebs have a very distorted view of Japan because they only care about it if it relates to anime: the average weeb probably couldn't name most Japanese dishes aside from noodles, sushi, or sashimi, they couldn't name any Japanese celebrities that aren't anime directors/writers, singers, or voice actors, they couldn't name any Japanese live-action shows that aren't tokusatsu or anime adaptations, they couldn't name any Japanese books that aren't light novels, and more. Weebs' view of Japan is divorced from reality, so when they say that anime is accepted in Japan, it's very unlikely.

Literally this. Recently, there was a controversy in Japan where there was an anime commercial for noodles that had sexual undertones. Many Japanese people were outraged and pointed to how generally, anime campaigns are for "weird uncles" who will buy anything with a waifu on it and do ungodly things. Now, the west is starting to have similar anime marketing campaigns (Catholic anime girl and McDonald's anime commercials), and you know that anime isn't accepted in the west, so it's not fair to say it's accepted in Japan.
People will say that anime wouldn't have come from Japan if Japanese people didn't have degeneracy normalized in their country, but Western animation and comics were poised to go down a similar path and only stopped because of lucky legislation.
Before the Comics Code, the most common comic genres were porn, romance, and horror, which is similar to what makes up the majority of manga today. Super hero comics often had sexual undertones in the early 20th century. The Comics Code exists because a psychologist pointed out that Batman was implied to be a pedophile molesting Robin in the early comics (wokes will say it was homophobia, but no, it's pedophilia). This mirrors how shonen manga are very sexual and often have pedophile/pervert characters. Superhero comics would have continued to be very sexual if not for the threat of legislation, just because of who was making them -- Wonder Woman was created by a bondage fetishist in a polycule. Animation would have also been very sexual if there weren't strict laws in the US about what you can and can't show kids.
In the USSR, sexual/violent content was banned in media because, since there was no capitalist incentive, they thought their media had to educate and inspire the people, so sexual/violent content was seen as a waste of the audience's time, and artists had freedom to do whatever they wanted as long as there was no pro-capitalist sentiment (this is why Miyazaki admired Russian animation). As soon as the Union fell, Eastern European media became obscene and degenerate (though animation was spared because there wasn't much money for it then) because there was a capitalist incentive and no regulation.
The truth is, sex and violence sell. Media will tend towards this if there is no regulation and it's made for grown men with lots of disposable income and no responsibilities (aka manchildren who will buy tons of merch). Japan just figured this out earlier, saw that you could be as degenerate and violent as possible with animation and comics, and it grew into a massive worldwide mental toxin. Sexual/violent media is cheaper to make because the story isn't as important, and it can be made more quickly, so it's very profitable. This is not an indictment on Japan's culture, nor do Japanese people accept this. The idea that most people anywhere accept anime degeneracy is laughable, so weebs, this is not the hill to die on.

So one controversy without context given proves Japan hates this whole medium? I don't think companies like 7/11 or Sega or Dominoes would risk having Hatsune Miku in their advertising and media if there's such a searing but entirely subdued hatred for anime as a medium. I don't really see any movements in their art to combat the "anime style" and westernize or turn back to traditional forms of art, I'm not saying it's everything about Japanese culture but it still is everywhere. You can claim I'm a weeb with no knowledge of the intricacies of Glorious Nipponese culture, but you don't really provide that much proof to the contrary. I imagine it's like with wrestling here where people either love it, hate it or are indifferent to it.

It is an objective fact that the West has made more serious sci-fi animation than Japan ever has! Also note that the West has made lots of serious sci-fi animation well into the 2010s and 2020s, while most of Japan's stuff is from the 70s and 80s. This isn't even getting into sci-fi literature (and the West not only has Japan absolutely beat on that, but most sci-fi also anime rip off Western sci-fi literature), but I didn't bring it up because it's not a fair comparison. I'm not as familiar with dark fantasy animation, but considering the West has made stuff like Redwall and Fire and Ice, it's probably not a genre that Western animation has neglected. Considering that fantasy anime in particular is mainly isekai/litRPG and fanservice garbage filled with annoying tropes and bizarre sex stuff, I think it's fair to say that again, Western animation is better than anime here. Time to accept that your pop culture is far better than Japanese stuff and that putting down your own culture to defend your escapist obsession with Japanese cartoons is dishonest and misinformed.

Attack on Titan was the most viewed show at one point during its run. Pokemon alone curb stomps his factually wrong statement, but Dragon Ball Z is also immensely popular. He somehow thinks it's not even accepted in Japan, he's delusional.

I think anime is just something you watch to kill time. Plots in anime are often simple. I certainly won't squeeze life lessons out of a fucking cartoon. OP is taking this too seriously imo, but I agree that anime is mostly trash.
Excellent illustrations on a lot of mangas, subpar story writing. Cliffhanger endings in the worst case scenario.
