Surprised there is no thread on this already.

Hytale is a Minecraft clone with RPG mechanics being developed primarily by Hypixel, that Minecraft server your kid brother likes to play bedwars on.

It was originally announced in 2019, then went silent for a while before eventually getting canned because the developers were retarded niggers and thought that teaming up with Riot fucking Games was a good idea. This year they seem to have gotten the rights back from Riot and the game is in active development again.

Simon Hypixel himself uploaded a gameplay video yesterday and it is literally the only bit of actual gameplay footage we've had since the game was announced.

Minecraft clone? what is this 2015. This looks like something you stumble across on the xbox 360 store.

Don't diss my boy Castle Miner Z like that.

shitty old XBLA games where you use your xbox avatar are a work of art.

What's the difference between this and heavily modded Minecraft? I don't see why it needs to be its own game.
The difference is that they can make money off of it, I guess. They've teased modding tools explicitly in the past but not much other than the fact that they exist.

Hytale was created because Hypixel was frustrated with Mojang’s EULA changes that restricted P2W microtransactions. These changes reduced their revenue by about 85%. I'm not too excited for it because server owners are jews.

Kind of sucks how Simon (Now owner of Hytale Studios) doesn't want custom skins which would mostly be for cosmetics but also for moderation as well (Don't want some guy with a hitler, trump, epstein, or diddy skin to be shown in some livestreams/videos for kids). However, there is some talk about custom skins being an option for servers to enable? Can't find any info on that but I hope its true since it would at least allow for some creativity to arise rather than having it be behind a paywall or be stuck in a limbo of approval systems.

If they choose not to support custom skins first party, there's going to be guaranteed third party support. If nothing else, I intend to see how far I can push the modding api. Worst case someone ends up shipping a client plugin that hooks into the game without multiplayer skin coordination. Best case, we end up not needing to do anything and can just slot files in on our own worlds/servers.

You know what, this is pretty fucking good. Started out as a perfectly cromulent MC clone and then more details kept revealing themselves and I kept liking them.
The climbing is great and being able to climb trees and cliffs and cave walls after 15 fucking years is a damn good feeling.
I really like the biomes and the "zone" concept and despite only scratching the surface I've seen some pretty cool shit. I was spoiled by an early editor screenshot so I was aware of the trick but there's something fun with the cacti.
The animals are very cute and I like the fact that some zones are filled with instadeath enimies that you have to sneak around if you don't have the correct equipment.
The base caves are a little boring but I've seen some cool cave biomes. Not caves and cliffs level yet though.
Again, I've barely scratched the surface. There's actually a lot of content here.
