I've seen many attempts at trying to clone Tarkov, but they all fail because it being hard as balls is part of the appeal. People want a challenge and Tarkov gives it to them with a deep game that unfortunately is made by a surprisingly inept team on an engine that is simply not meant for multiplayer.

If I'm gonna play GTA, I don't wanna play Black lesbian Robin Hood who's actually-the-hero (per the GTA6 leaks). I wanna be Trevor Phillips. I wanna be a crank addict lunatic who beats people with a billy club for getting in my way or wearing a faggy hat. I want to simulate things I'd never do in real life.

I don't know why people didn't like playing as Trevor, I thought it was a lot of fun playing as a maniac. His life was all fucked up and he'd say funny things as he was mowing people down. I don't really remember much about the others, I know Franklin was a black guy who stole cars and Michael looked like my stepdad.

So where is the billion dollar figure coming from? I haven't seen it anywhere in any of the articles, other then a $100 million figure for the budget of just the game. As for advertisement? It was mostly on Twitter from what I recall, but even then, why would you advertise a game in Alpha build for closed playtesting?

I don't get how they could have spent this much money. I suppose they need artists to make maps and 3D drag queens but the other mechanics of making an FPS should basically be a solved problem now using existing game development software since it's been done so many times already. There's got to be some shady dealings going on.

the concept isn't awful, other than the story line its a pretty decent and unique game play loop. But:

the story is way too in your face and has fellow kids energy.

there are deadass already classes locked behind a paywall.

GTA Levels of aim assist, except this is a shooter game so its just awkward as fuck even to watch.

Powers are pretty useless

you basically never PVP

the playerbase was both meager and disabled

apparently the game wasn't even some Overwatch clone, its a looter-shooter, wich you would never know based on the garbage marketing . maybe there was an audience for this(acessible Tarkov with a less racist user base)but they botched it bad by making it look like woker Valorant.

being ultra hardcore and super punishing is the entire appeal of tarkov.

it's not even really about the challenge itself, it's about the fact that you have a real stake in the match (unless you play scav but that fucking sucks) and will lose a lot if you die. you have skin in the game in a way that doesn't really exist in most other games, that's what gets you emotionally invested and makes the game extremely high intensity despite having very very slow gameplay compared to other shooters.

The few snippets I bothered to look at was exactly what I expect from Sammy, a company that puppeted the best thing that ever happened to them since 2003 that they have used to keep people away from thier gambling buisnesses and get into the gaming indystry.
