I'm looking for how to configure a cheap SBC such as a Pi device to do the following:
  1. Email an address "My public IP address is thus-and-so" maybe once a day , automatically, when it has Internet access.
  2. Have a SSH tunnel preconfigured, so that without fucking with the local router or otherwise disrupting the network I can log in remotely to it and thus the LAN it's connected to.
Gave it a try myself and only managed to wind up with an unusable system that did nothing I wanted it to.

whose IP are you trying to steal?
My own, actually.

The router manufacturer decided that they knew better than everyone and disabled ALL remote access features in a firmware update. I've not been successful in finding an older one to downgrade to and they only have the newest one on their website. So now if you want to remote-manage your own fucking network you have to use their retarded phone app.

I thought of this as a workaround where I can log into my 'jumpoff point' and use THAT to log into the router, which you can still do from the LAN it's on.

Raspberry pi (or any cheap PC) with Teamviewer unattended access is the easiest way I can think of to accomplish this.

Can you really not port forward with that router anymore? Comcast forces you to use their online configuration interface to port forward. You can look into a pi zero w but it may be cheaper to just buy a router and return the provided one.
If you don't want to use a free service like teamviewer, you can use a cheap VPS as the intermediary.

I'm trying to avoid that because I'm stuck in an ISP monopoly and they do not like people flashing their rented router/modems.

Would really rather just add a cheap device of my own.
My ISP want me to use their shit equipment, but I don't and they still have to provide support for the service: check your consumer rights in whatever country you live.
Edit: I use a GAMER router :tomgirl:
