Do Mods personally highlight posts or are the posts highlighted whenever the stickers on a specific post hit a certain threshold or score? Or both? I always wondered this, it's quite consistent and if mods do it manually they're really dedicated. Also, thank you null for switching to a forum software like Discourse. (Minimalist garbage, new-age TRASH)

Solution
It's based on the number of reactions that a post has. I don't know the exact number necessary for it to trigger, and I don't care enough to find out. Note that it's just the number of reactions, meaning that a post with 100 trashcans will still be highlighted.
You post in the happenings thread with a specific post link and if mods like it enough they will highlight it, though Null has full veto power and they will check with him on some stuff as he mentioned when Lowtax died.

Doesn't have to be your own post either, the H3H3 NRA one was one I submitted that was another person's post.

That's the featured content. This is about highlights.

I always assumed the post had to reach a certain engagement score within a specific time period.

Thank you

The fuck is a highlight?
When there's a thin green line above a post, in the corner there's a button to click through to the next or previous "highlight" so you can skip through pages to posts that got lots of reactions and try to get the gist of what's going on in a long/active thread.

I think the algorithm takes into account the number of other reactions on the page because sometimes on a new page a post that has like two reactions while the others have none yet will get it on it temporarily.

I will be clicking through a thread and sometimes important information or plot points for a cow will just not be highlighted.

I wish there was some way to manually flag a post to be highlighted, and if it reached a certain number of flags it was made a highlight, subject to moderator review.
