To answer the second question: women's Rogaine is popular enough to come in generic form. Minoxidil is an antihypertensive being used for its side effect of hair growth, so if a woman is trying to avoid the "pink tax" they should check the labels and watch for hypotension.

Another female-heavy form of baldness is traction alopecia, from chronic use of too-tight updos. You see this a lot in fashionable black women because hair "relaxers" exacerbate the damage.

Women can indeed use minoxidil in smaller doses, but the side effects are especially undesirable for them (hair growth in other areas). Women are also sometimes prescribed Bimatoprost/Latanoprost, a drug that is mainly used for growing longer eyelashes.

Aside from that, laser caps can be a solid alternative to minoxidil because they have a similar stimulating effect without any downsides. These devices are pretty expensive though, depending on how many laser diodes they have

Another thing about minoxidil poeple should be aware of is that it's extremely toxic to animals. There are several posts on Reddit and personal blogs of people's cats dying after they started using it.

...and glaucoma! Glaucoma is kind of a big deal you guys.

The prostaglandin eyelash serums also came about because of drug side effects, this time of the prostaglandin eyedrops for glaucoma. Some of these old men and ladies have amazing eyelashes; it's not a big leap to make.
