How do you quiet your mind when trying to sleep?

For most people, melatonin does the trick. Something light like a green tea to wash it down with the sublinguals would be your best bet. If you're a light sleeper and need something with a bit more kick, then a nice indica would probably be more up your alley. If you're finding it's damn near impossible to sleep despite both of the previous methods, then you could pull a Ye and get up "on the nitrous" with a Miami Magic or Primewhip XL tank that's easily available on Amazon. Aside from that, reading dark romance during the evening helps, but maybe that's just me.
 
Make the room completely dark, turn off the tv, turn the phone on silent and don’t fuck around with it, put some kind of white noise on like a fan at low settings, get into bed, close your eyes and clear your mind of everything except slowly counting backwards from 100.

If you partake, smoke a little bit of weed if the insomnia is really bad. Just don’t make a habit of it or you’ll end up dependent on it as a sleep aid.

I genuinely count sheep. It's almost meditative to imagine their surroundings: the farm, the fence they're jumping over, the grass moving in the breeze. Sometimes it takes a while, sometimes I barely get past 20.
 
L-theanine (alone or combined with ashwaganda) is a godsend. Perfect for falling back to sleep when you wake in the middle of the night and your brain won’t rest.

To exhaust my mind, first I read a lot. I’ll read in English typically but adding languages to the mix can make it more tiring. On Friday nights, the one night a week when I never touch my phone under any circumstances, I start reading a book and fall asleep almost instantly.

The last stage of wearing my brain out is to play the alphabet game in my head, kind of a solo version of Scattergories. Protip: Every lolcow universe with which you are familiar is ripe for this head game.
 
I think about fuckin and then that overrides the anxiety and all the blood leaves my brain.

Can't help you with the gay thoughts thing though. Try an antiparasitic or dewormer or something.
 
Crank the hog until you're so tired you fall asleep. After you get it out of your system your mind should be more clear and easier to sleep since it should activate your parasympathetic nervous system.
