If we're talking true "apocalypse", if you have a coordinated strategy with your entire community, people are able to enact it without shitting and pissing themselves too much, and you live in the middle of nowhere, you might have a decent chance as a collective. We're still talking about turn of the 201th century standard of living going forward, with constant threats from the outside, but not bad. If a sudden wave of zombies comes across your town, just make sure there is a universal suicide plan so no one suffers, especially the children.

If you're in a urban or dense suburban area, well, you're just fucked. Survive as long as you can, but prepare for the fact you're going to need to kill yourself at some point.

If what has been written before is accurate, zombies are inedible.

Same as any other (un)natural disaster, but with more guns. It's really quite widely applicable.
