I just met one outside of my workplace. He was once in prison and now that he’s gotten released, he has no where to go. Is there anything I can do?

Ask him if he needs food or clothes. If he directly asks for money, just walk away. He’s gonna spend it on drugs or cigs.

If he directly asks for cigs, then just get him a pack because honesty is respectable.

Tons of positions have "banned the box" asking about criminal convictions. Unless it's a position where a particular criminal conviction matters they won't even bother asking you to begin with. Like they wouldn't hire a chomo to do landscaping work around peoples' houses.

Personally I think it's BS a felony conviction stays on your record no matter what but that's a whole other topic.
I was lucky that the only crime I’ve ever committed and ever intend to commit happened before I was 18. Got that shit expunged. Saved me a lot of possible trouble as an adult.

I got a DUI back in my early 20s, that's about it. Sort of funny when I mentioned it to a recruiter a few years ago he laughed and said that wouldn't be an issue as several people at the office have them.

Make of that what you will, I've never been drug tested either.

Time is really what matters provided the original charge checks out (i.e. it's not something that bars you from working in that field). There's of course a big difference between a felony conviction from 30 years ago and 3 years ago.

Some are more serious than others but I’ve worked with alleged murderers, drug dealers, and other such serious offenders and all of them seem to get treated like “no big deal” which is concerning to me. Like a DUI is one thing. I assume plenty of people have one on their record as it’s generally a small and usually victimless crime. Those I think are fine. As an employer however I would never hire anyone with a serious offense. Fuck that. No thank you
