I've tried medication, icy hot and ice and heat packs nothing is working. The pain is mostly on my right side and I had to take a day off to rest.

I got this old book Yoga Against Spinal Pain at a flea market years ago. Whenever there's anything wrong with my neck or back, it's always fixed by the routine in this book. It's short and simple, lots of photos.

Any number of other yoga/exercise/stretching books are probably equally adequate. But the best answer to pain is supporting and restoring *proper* movement. Something somewhere is too tight, out of balance, etc. Slowly work your way through all the planes of movement, and look at some anatomy diagrams. Google trigger point maps. Figure out *exactly* what's wrong and where. (If something is actually torn or broken, rest may be needed before movement of course.)

I can tell you what will help. You will likely hate them all, but your other option is pain.

  • Stop staring at screens. It tenses your whole body and especially head/next/back.
  • Sit up straight and get your head/neck aligned instead of tilted up or down or jutted forward. Get a reminder app and don't ignore it.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Drink enough water.
  • Stretch.
  • ***Do range of motion exercises. There's an app I've used called (!) ROM, I think, go figure. You can do like 2 body areas for free indefinitely. Do neck and whatever else it recommends (shoulder or back probably). It's very low-tech but the exercises are good and he explains them well. It's a 10-15 minute or so investment that is non-strenuous but very effective ime.
  • Strengthen your core.
  • If you clench your jaw, stop. Put your tongue between your teeth to break the habit.
  • Wash your sheets and make a nice bed. Flip and turn your mattress and get pillows that feel really good. If your mattress sucks, get a good mattress topper (the thick ones).

I'm sure many of you have horrible posture from sitting incorrectly when using your PC, slouching to reach the keyboard.

There is a solution.

Aikido.

I used to have a disgusting posture, looking somewhat like the hunched back of notre dame.
It all changed when I took Aikido, my back straighten and strengthen.

Now I look like a confident young man ready to take on the world, not a recluse trying to get back into his shell.

Women love a man with good posture.

I've never used one myself, but I've been told that these neck stretcher things can help a lot. I don't want to link to Amazon but you can find one for like 20 bucks.

If you want to save yourself the money, you can do the exact same stretch by simply taking your pillow in bed and placing it under your neck/shoulders instead of under your head.
