AI cannot ever think like humans.
Let's use a classic example of AI going out of control. Suppose you built an AI that could evolve through machine learning, and gave it one task:
maximize the number of paper clips in its possession. Then you left it alone to do just that. The AI may decide to mine more metal to make paper clips, or to take a job to earn the money to buy paper clips. It may go to war with humanity to make metal out of the iron in our blood, decide to mine the asteroids in space, and dismantle entire planets- simply for the purpose of getting the raw materials to maximize the number of paper clips in its possession.
This is pretty clever for our little AI. However- and this is important-
the AI is only doing this to maximize the number of paper clips in its possession. It cannot comprehend anything outside of that one, overriding goal. It cannot decide to make shampoo instead of paper clips. It cannot redefine what a paper clip is. More importantly, it cannot understand emotions, desires, preferences- things that make us undeniably alive. Our AI can't decide one day that it hates paper clips and make something else. It can't even or answer the question "Do you like paper clips?"
Barring some unforeseen leap in quantum engineering, AI cannot think like a person.
