Hi,

So here is my issue. I bought a house last year and since the beginning I've hated my backyard. I have an acre lot and it's all just trash vegetation and not grass. It's also got sand/dirt soil.

My long term plan is to pave it all over and have a pool installed. Until then this shit is growing like weeds, literally.

Next time I mow it I want to put something down that will kill anything and everything green in my soil. The only catch is I have two dogs so it can't be some turbo cancer carcinogen that will take ten years off my life.

I've tried some 20% vinegar mixed with salt and dish soap. This was successful in some areas but not cost effective.

Can anyone recommend how to chemically kill everything in my back yard without killing my dogs? Do I need to take 50-60% vinegar concentrate or is there some other solution?

Finding a non-selective herbicide that isn't harmful to pets and is cost effective is not going to be easy, especially if you have a whole acre to cover. If you kill everything your dogs are going to be shitting on and tearing up bare earth. Broadleaf weedkillers are probably your best bet, they'll control almost everything that isn't a grass but leave the turf intact.
If you're really serious about killing everything, covering the whole lot over with plastic sheet until it's all dead is probably going to be the most cost effective. There's stuff you can buy on a big roll that farmers use, and it should be available in ag stores near you.

same. dogs amirite
Tried vinegar. All it really did was brown leaves ect doesn't get down the roots.
Another way is mechanical that is lay something on top of it and starve them of light ect so they can't grow and die off. I use weed mat and/or cardboard boxes. Piles of mulch also stop weeds ect growing.
Find something Glyphosate free with pelargonic acid (nonanoic acid) in it and spray that around. Keep the dogs away from it for 2 hours or until it's dry.
When it gets down to it the best way is to remove the weeds ect by hand and if you keep the grass up the weeds won't grow ... as much.

Just use glyophosate you stinking hippy. Keep your dogs inside for 24 hours during/after spraying. Repeat as needed. The cancer thing is a myth.
