Chances of just being able to buy a PS5 off the shelf by 2022?
Who even knows. I managed to find one at msrp by pure luck. I don’t actually regret it. Ratchet and Clank and Returnal are legit good games. Not sure how I feel about Horizon though. I got soured on the first game because BotW came out 2 weeks later and blew it out of the water, and it’s looking like BotW2 might be on track to do it again.

The face controversy made me notice something.

AloyComparison.jpg
Aloy's head shape is actually pretty much the same as it has always been. If you flatten the textures by using curves/levels in Photoshop, they have the same exact overall outline (except for the strained expression she's making on the left which makes a 1:1 comparison difficult). What has changed is her face texture/mapping and lighting. She seems paler, making the red splotches on her cheeks and nose stand out, making her almost look like a potato-nosed alcoholic. Her nasolabial lines are deeper (and that's not just mapping, that's actual polys), representative of aging. Both of these factors combine to make her jaw, which was always quite large, stand out in a way that it didn't when her complexion was smooth and she had fewer wrinkles. This just goes to show the importance of surface shapes and textures in game character models and objects and how they "read" to the eye. Different textures can make the outlines of two objects look totally different even if they're the same model.

You're missing that the new model is able to have her brows furrow and form wrinkles.

There's more details in the face due to the new mocap system, but mocap systems that are extremely high end are like luxury cars. They do one thing extremely well and everything else is over-engineered to the point of arguably being inferior compared to what else is out there.

I just realized after seeing some of the new trailer for this shit in a semi-related video, they have that faggot Sunhilegend doing video editing on the gameplay in the trailer right? It reeks of his "style" of editing boring shit to make it look interesting only for the game to actually be dull as dishwater. Has that same awful slow down speed up effect he makes on his trash and it wouldn't surprise me if he was some kind of marketer in the slightest.

Super late edit: turns out yes, they got that guy to edit and capture all the gameplay.

If what people are saying is true about how they're doing the leveling systems, it's going to be the same as a Bethesda game.

So yeah you can pick up miscellaneous shit in a huge open world while also killing shit. Allowing people to specialize what combat style they want isn't really a bad thing especially if the bosses stay true to how they are in the trailers. Specific regions are going to have specific resources needed for certain builds.

There's not really a huge amount of western RPGs on the market and they're like co-developing 3-4 other games in the series already. So I kind of want to see how this whole thing plays out.

Wonder if they are going to do the 'Surprise Ted Faro is still alive" in this game.
I want them to reveal he was the good guy all along.

Yeah, I know it won't happen.

As long as it's the same game with new robots and new weapons I'll be happy. HZD is one of my all-time favorites, although I will say the weapons got really samey and didn't feel great at times, and nearly every robot boiled down to "cover its entire surface in sticky bombs" by the halfway point. Hopefully they'll make the enemies feel more distinct this time around.

A most robust dismantling system that isn't just "shoot 1000 tearblast arrows" would be awesome too, although I don't know how they'd do it without it being more annoying than fun. A weapon that works similar to Blade Mode in Metal Gear Rising would be absolute perfection, but I highly doubt they'll do that.

I legit wish we got more choices for melee weapons in HZD than "spear you use for maybe 30 minutes", "barely-upgraded spear you use for the whole game" and "spear you get at endgame". At least the DLC let us slap mods on them, but jeez, good luck finding many of those. I'd also love to see some more gear from the Metal Age. Machines couldn't have blown up every single piece of equipment we made, and her Focus means Aloy knows how to use it all.

Honestly I think it would be hilarious if in desperation following the absolute ass-reaming Hades gave them the Nora dig into their sacred mountain a bit and find some cosmoline-coated M4's that have been laying there in a basement in NORAD HQ for God knows how long and decide those boomsticks are a gift from their goddess. Not like they'd have any other solutions to their completely destroyed defenses and massively disproportionate population losses compared to the Carja and especially the Oseram save subjugation and eventual assimilation. Not when those two groups got their hands on a lot of quality salvage following their mostly successful defense of Meridian.

HZ:D was a nice idea for gameplay videos but in reality it was dumb. The world was basically empty, and the objectives were always the other side of the map, meaning long, drawn out walking for no reason.
