I knew that the reviews would have disclaimers, but I didn't realize that every upbeat listicle would have the same shitty copypasta.

Do the shiny pokemon do anything? One of the first birds I caught has a + symbol and looks different (while the unique quest critters don't have the +) but it doesn't seem to give extra resources or anything obvious

damn that stupid flying race thing is annoying af. You can’t exit if you fuck up the first one and the dual stick controls are annoying - I keep trying to turn with the right stick instead of the left.

I hope I can eventually just buy some badass broom somewhere and just use that because I suck at pod racing
 
Also, I know that a lot of people are stating that both the models for the students are similar. I don't think this was so much for woke reasons rather then the fact that the game is mostly filled with under age kids between the ages of 11-17. I can understand if the developers didn't want to sexualize the female students given that they are underage and this is a game mostly for children. I will be honest with people. Like all things centered around nerd culture there is some people in gaming who I think it is safe to say are prevents. The Fallout and Skyrim mods we have seen over the years are proof of that. Speaking of mods, I shudder to think of the types of mods we will see for this game that will pop up on both Nexus and Lovers Lab. Give me those Islamic and Horrifying ratings.
 
It’s less the similar models and more how every damn character in the game is the same dumpy british woman or slightly annoyed British guy. Kinda like running into a token minority as at least they look different.

Pretty sure the brooms are all the same and the descriptions about them being better at one thing or another are just fluff. I bought the most expensive one I could find and it seems to handle exactly the same. Although it does have a neat contrail effect that makes it feel smoother.
You can buy universal broom upgrades but I'm 40 hours in and I've only seen the first one (which you get a while after beating that race; it's mandatory to progress that quest).

Just come back to it later if it's pissing you off. I hate the flight controls too but it gets a lot easier after brooming around for a while.

(Also just fly off course for a few seconds if you miss a ring and wanna reset, it puts you back at the platform)

You can exit them by flying off course and waiting 5 seconds. I don't particularly mind the controls after inverting y-axis (though they do still screw me from time to time) but if you want to beat the top times you basically need to upgrade unless you're content playing Harry Potter and the Trackmania 2 Valley.
 
I really can't stand the gender neutral dialogue. I get that they'd want to cut corners here and there so you don't need two takes of each line but the amount of times characters refer to you as "they" is just grating. Also can we just get male/female as an option in games again?

I'm with you regarding the male/female options, but people seriously have to stop getting pissy about the use of "they" as gender neutral language. Especially since the singular "they" has been part of literature for 500+ years.
I'd rather hear NPCs using "they" instead of listening to everyone calling my char "The Chosen One, Dragonborn, Vault Dweller, Champion, Survivor, New Student etc."

I mean, some of the NPCs in idle chatter start calling you the 'Troll Slayer' if you do a particular quest, so you can't escape titles forever.
