I haven't played this shit, but I figured someone has to hold up the art-game indie game mantel on this board.

Hoa is a beautiful puzzle-platforming game that features breathtaking hand-painted art, lovely music, and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Experience the magic of nature and imagination as you play the main character, Hoa, on her journey through breathtaking environments back to where it all began

Looks pretty comfy not gonna lie

Hoa review
A gorgeous, non-violent puzzle platformer with big Studio Ghibli vibes, Hoa is a brief but brilliant tale about the healing power of nature, and the cutest rhinoceros beetles you ever did see.

There is 30 years of interesting games/movies in gaming and media, why the fuck it always boils down to being "inspired" by the same 5 titles?
I want a gorgeous, non-violent puzzle platformer with big... anyway, there should be Supervixens or Chesty Anderson vibes.

I'm out.

Whatever happened to "gamers don't care about graphics" that the internet constantly throws around. It seems to be the only thing these kinds of "high art" indie games have going for them.

lovely music
ie. Soft piano music that you forget the moment it stops.

and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.
So "art games" have finally reached the same level as Train Simulator 2021.

non-violent
Because all games, especially pretentious puzzle platformers, are notorious for their violence.

I'm exaggerating of course, but I don't like these so called "art games" for these reasons. In the case of Hoa, yet another puzzle platformer that relies on pretty graphics and soft piano music that pretentious hipsters will claim is above criticism because it's "art". It does look pretty though, I'll give it that.

I was hoping for a game about tormenting Home Owners Associations. Imagine it: you play as a hillbilly that’s had all the land around his shack bought up by a housing development company that turns the place into a snooty gated community with a ludicrous set of HOA bylaws that you’re exempt from.

Featuring banjo music and hand painted graphics that look like something out of Lil’ Abner.

I'm one of the people that "don't care about graphics". What it means in my case is that I can tolerate any type of graphics if the game underneath is good. Look at Rimworld for example. Looks like absolute shit, I avoided it for a full year from its original launch because I just disliked the artstyle that much, only to put 500+ hours into it.

However, that does not mean I'm incapable of enjoying a short experience entirely relying on graphics. That's perfectly fine, too. I just dont need good graphics to give a game a shot. If your premise is "we made some nice hand-drawn art and slapped together a video game" I'm perfectly fine with that as long as you're upfront about it. Also as far as grahics go I'll side with a 2D platformer with hand-drawn art any day over yet another generic photorealistic 3D cover shooter with the newest particle physics. The former has soul, the latter does not.

Also why can't I reply to your message and had to jerry-rig these quotes, I don't know.
