Dr. Carl Tanzler, who've developed an unhealthy obsession for a young Cuban-American tuberculosis patient María Elena Milagro de Hoyos (she died despite his efforts), to the point of removing her body from its tomb in 1933 and lived with the corpse at his home, until his ass got caught by authorities and her relatives in 1940

The case became a scandal, but there was oddly a lot of public sympathy for Tanzler.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the ending of the Blockade of Leningrad, which lasted 872 days and caused a disastrous famine. 632, 253 people died of starvation and over 2 million more civilians and soldiers were killed during evacuation or by the invading forces. At the end of the wart there were only 700,000 people left of a population of 3.5 mil. The siege also coincided with incredibly harsh winters, in which the temperature dropped to -30C. The cemeteries overflowed and ashes from mass cremations was dumped into lakes and ditches. People were eating pets, zoo animals and corpses. The effect on the city was disastrous- the Wehrmacht looted and ransacked many beautiful historical buildings and caused massive damage to the architecture and cultural artefacts.
Most of the Soviet forces were stationed on the front lines so there were not many eft to defend the city- the civilians (women and children) of Leningrad were incredibly courageous in their support of the defenders. People worked as fire fighters and defended their homes with weapons.
The below picture is the ration of food that people were given per day- it's about 100g of 'bread'.

Now when I see Somali women in the streets of Sweden and on TV, they are almost always wearing ugly ass Islamic bedsheets which they also often force their young daughters to wear. On the other hand, it seems that a lot of female Afghani immigrants get rid of all forms of Islamic clothing completely when they arrive here (according to a family member who teaches Swedish as a foreign language).

This just makes me sad. This stuff didn't only happen in Somalia and Afghanistan too; women in Iran used to be able to wear whatever they pleased and now its law to wear a headdress. I feel like a lot of culture was lost during this stuff with traditional outfits being replaced with hijabs and burqas since they were seen as too revealing.
