If you're interested, Khrushchev's comments during the tour were written down and can be read here.

Absolutely based commentary. I love how his first instinct is to ask where the artist's parents are or if he is a pedophile, as though its the one way to explain the monstrosity he sees.

The painter, Zheltovskii, comes forward.
N. S. Khrushchev: “You’re a nice-looking lad, but how could you paint something like this? We should take down your pants and set you down in a clump of nettles until you understand your mistakes. You should be ashamed. Are you a pederast or a normal man? .....................We aren’t going to spend a kopeck on this dog shit. We have the right to send you out to cut trees until you’ve paid back the money the state has spent on you. The people and government have taken a lot of trouble with you, and you pay them back with this shit.

I might have to use that expression, 'cut trees' in a similar context.

Beliutin: “I am a teacher.”

N. S. Khrushchev: “How can such a person teach? People like him should be cleared out of the teaching profession. They shouldn’t be allowed to teach in the universities. Go abroad if you want; and if you don’t want to, we’ll send you anyway. I can’t even talk about this without getting angry. I’m a patriot.”

Those who can't, teach, right?

In front of a painting by Shorts: “Why aren’t you ashamed of this mess? Who are your parents?”

Shorts gives information about his parents, mentioning that his mother is dead.

N. S. Khrushchev: “It’s a pity, of course, that your mother is dead, but maybe it’s lucky for her that she can’t see how her son is spending his time. What master are you serving anyway? Our paths are different. You’ve either got to get out or paint differently. As you are, there’s no future for you on our soil.”

No sympathy, zero!

On September 24, 1983, the Edmonds Community College was attempting to break the world record for the largest kite flown when a sudden gust of wind launched the 14,000 square foot kite 120 feet into the air.

The man seen dangling is Steve Edeiken, president of the Rainbow Kite Company and chairman of the Kite Trade Association International, after his foot got tangled in one of the shroud lines.

After Edeiken was able to untangle his foot while still holding onto the line, the kite began to oscillate from side-to-side and he lost his grip, falling to his death.

Under the American Kite Association’s criteria at the time—a flight time of two minutes at an altitude greater than the kite’s width—the launch qualified for the record, however, it was never officially recognized due to the tragic circumstances. The American Kite Association would later create the Steve Edeiken Memorial Award in his honor.

Surely they would have given the award and then retired the record due to the tragic circumstances, like they have done for most dangerous records

30 years later and I can still smell those pictures.

A Polish chapel mainly constructed of human bones. Reflecting the history there, I assume.

Anna stubblefield , a sped researcher, collapsing onto the defense table, sobbing, as her verdict is read, and in denial as she's handcuffed.

Anna was convicted for sexing her main client and subject of her research, a profoundly disabled, severely developmentally delayed exceptional nonverbal man , after becoming his main translater-caretaker after developing "facilitated communication" by holding his elbow and hand and helping him to "write his thoughts" by moving his finger over an alphabet
And tapping letters.

She appealed and eventually years later re-pleaded but as guilty for raping a disabled client clearly unable to consent.

She...wrote details of their sexcapades.
*Shudders*

Nyt article

And this...curious blog post.

You can tell she was genuinely shocked to be convicted of the heinous crimes she obviously actually committed.

I like the officers expressions in that first photo. My favorite is a toss up between the female officer with her hands clasped, you know she's been waiting to slap the cuffs on that cunt and is trying to hold back a smile, to the male officer with his very clear expression of "Damn, you sick bitch".

I think as it was in Paris, the human remains of the city were so dense (not from war or famine, but because of a large population and no infrastructure to deal with it) they started building the catacombs out of bone; so rather than a deliberate reflection of Polish history, it was done out of practicality

This is one of my favorite short films just because of the amount of glee seen on screen. I absolutely love how the crowd sees the guy with the bike coming through and decides, collectively, to rock his shit.
