she’s considering another presidential run, telling a New York City audience on Friday that she would be well suited to the office.

During a far-ranging interview with Kara Swisher of the technology website Recode(Ms. Swisher is also a contributor to The Times’s Opinion section), Mrs. Clinton initially said “no” when asked whether she wanted to run for president again. She then paused and repeated “no.”

But after Ms. Swisher noted the slight hesitation, Mrs. Clinton seemed to reconsider her response, saying that a major task of the next Democratic president will be improving the international standing of the United States.

“Well, I’d like to be president,” she said, during the public taping at the 92nd Street Y of Ms. Swisher’s podcast. "The work would be work that I feel very well prepared for having been at the Senate for eight years, having been a diplomat in the State Department, and it’s just going to be a lot of heavy lifting.”

Mrs. Clinton has become a more visible presence in recent weeks, increasing the number of her public appearances and raising money for Democrats across the country. Last week, she spoke at a fund-raiser for Donna Shalala, a former Clinton administration official, who is running for a House seat in Florida.

“She will always be a winner and I’ll always be with her,” said Ms. Shalala, introducing Mrs. Clinton to a room full of 200 Democratic donors in Miami.

Mrs. Clinton said she wouldn’t consider a possible run in 2020 until after the midterm elections next week.

“I’m not even going to even think about it until we get through this Nov. 6 election,” she said. “But I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure we have a Democrat in the White House come January of 2021.”

Should she mount a third presidential bid, Mrs. Clinton would be entering a Democratic field crowded with potential contenders, a major shift from 2016, when nearly no Democrats were eager to challenge her.

Mrs. Clinton said she expects a crowded field of as many as 20 Democrats.

“I think we’d have a number of excellent candidates who would be really formidable on the campaign trail, but let’s wait and see who it is,” she said. "I’m just going to wait and watch what happens.”

Mrs. Clinton dismissed some of the calls for her to retreat from public life as sexist.

“There were no articles telling Al Gore to go away or John Kerry to go away or John McCain or Mitt Romney to go away,” she said. “Mitt Romney is going to the Senate, that’s where he’s going.”

Rate me :optimistic:, but I honestly doubt she'd get the 2020 nomination since that would be a huge PR disaster for the DNC and while yes they are idiotic, I do not think they'd be this stupid. If anything they're going to likely push for a younger female candidate.

The situation at the DNC, as I understand it, is that they've done away with Superdelegates for the initial primary, so the strategy is to run as many candidates as possible to split the vote enough to prevent any one candidate from getting a majority. At that point, it goes to a second ballot where Superdelegates get to play kingmaker and decide who the nominee is. Hillary will run, at least to split the vote. Whether she gets propped up or taps some creature to be the puppet in chief will probably be up to how she's doing at the time, health-wise and poll-wise.

This is why I keep saying the most likely nominee is going to be Kamala Harris, and, at best, the DNC will avoid getting barbelled by Hillary by giving her the VP spot on the ticket as a consolation prize and let her get up to proper Cheney shenanigans in office.

Nobody who wanted to live through their first term would give her that slot.

What are you talking about, lady, this aged like fine wine.

This Tweet aged just like she herself aged.

Actually really surreal to see such a cute lass turn out to be Hillary Clinton one day. Guess selling your soul to the devil does that.

Look, I know everyone likes to joke that Hillary has people killed on the regular; but you would have to be a complete idiot to pick Hilary as your running mate.

The barbell reference was mostly joking around. I'm not thinking about it from a sense of political strategy (since you're right, there is none), but more from a "the DNC is utterly dependent on the Clintons for what remaining cash they have, and since she won't fucking go away, she's obviously still desperate for power, so maybe they can negotiate her down to VP in order to have even a snowball's chance in hell of winning 2020" perspective.

She was attractive when she was a Republican and supported Goldwater,

...but then she met Bill.

Mark Penn, a former adviser to the Clintons, believes Hillary Clinton will make another run for president in 2020.

Penn, a frequent contributor to The Hill, co-wrote a Sunday op-ed for The Wall Street Journal with Andrew Stein, a former Democratic Manhattan borough president and president of the New York City Council.

“True to her name, Mrs. Clinton will fight this out until the last dog dies,” the pair wrote. “She won’t let a little thing like two stunning defeats stand in the way of her claim to the White House.”

They said Clinton will not allow her “humiliating loss” to President Trump during the 2016 presidential election end her political career.

“You can expect her to run for president once again,” they predicted. “Maybe not at first, when the legions of Senate Democrats make their announcements, but definitely by the time the primaries are in full swing.”

She has two years to review what went wrong during her last campaign bid and make a strategy, they wrote.

“She has decisively to win those Iowa caucus-goers who have never warmed up to her,” they wrote. “They will see her now as strong, partisan, left-leaning and all-Democrat—the one with the guts, experience and steely-eyed determination to defeat Mr. Trump.”

The former Democratic presidential nominee left the door open to a possible 2020 run last month, saying that even though she doesn't want to run, "I'd like to be president."

Longtime advisers and confidants quickly pushed back on reports that she was weighing another White House run.

“She’s more likely to win Powerball,” Philippe Reines, Clinton’s longtime adviser, told The Hill.

Penn and Stein, however, said that voters should not pay attention to “‘I won’t run’ declarations.”

“Mrs. Clinton knows both Mr. Clinton and Mr. Obama declared they weren’t running, until they ran,” the pair argued. “She may even skip Iowa and enter the race later, but rest assured that, one way or another, Hillary 4.0 is on the way.”

Edit: aide's op-ed can be found here.

This reads more like a former advisor trying to trade on his past association with the Clintons for some publicity, rather than a confirmation we'll be seeing a Hillary 2020 run.

I doubt even the Democrats would want her to run since she is the reason that "Cheeto Hitler" got elected plus she is too "moderate" for progressives.

I'd like to say the Dems couldn't possibly be this stupid, but...
At this point, I don't think there's a bottom of the barrel for them. Just when you think that the Democrats can't possibly be any more shortsighted, corrupt, arrogant, moronic, and incompetent, they ask for another shovel to dig themselves even deeper.

So, I'd say having her run again as a presidential candidate would be perfectly in-character for them.

Hillary spent 8 years cleaning out the DNC of anyone who could possibly counter her run as well as anyone who wouldn't toe the line when it came to her policies

This is why the DNC is such a shit show right now, all the capable pols are gone or neutered or just plain afraid to step up and be the 1st person to say the truth.

The current state of American Politics is 99% the fault of the Clinton s and their pay to play Clinton foundation.

Right now there is a power struggle going on inside the DNC but the Clinton's still hold the pure strings and so still have a veto over anything they don't like.

The Beta O'Rouke Texas debacle stinks to high heaven of Hillary's way to moving state level funding back into the coffers of the Federal DNC to help fund her next run. And its my honest to god hope she does run and she pulls every string, twists every rule and openly shows the average democrat exactly how much real input they have into the process. They may have "gotten rid of super-delegates" but trust me they still have veto on the potential candidates.

Hill-dawg will run and she will lose again and I hope to hell that that is enuff to finally wake up the democratic base so they can tear down and rebuild a functional DNC because as much as I love Trump and his salt, America needs a functioning DNC in the long run.

Please Hillary, for the good of America please run again.
