Rivals didn't succeed because of the booba or graphics, although they surely helped, but because they carbon copied overwatch gameplay which is an extremely well designed game, and the most important part of all, it released when OW2 was in the gutter trying to nickel and dime every penny they could from players while shitcanning the PvE.
This game could have succeeded even with the shit graphics and performance if the gameplay was good, but it just wasn't, people tried it and didn't like it, so they just fucked off somewhere else.
You also need something really special now to make it with any multiplayer shooter nowadays. The market is extremely crowded.

It's telling that the guys who made the game have no idea why it failed.

This shit began in hell and died in hell. While Geoff has a part to play in this, the poor marketing and uninspired game mechanics killed this game.

It’s not enough to be “fun” anymore when I can have “fun” playing Apex Legends or ARC Raiders or Overwatch or TF2.

Why weren't there skill trees at lauch? I feel like it would be reasonable to expect such a basic feature after a six year development period.
5.5 years on photo-realistic negroid hair with accurate hair physics. 0.5 years on gameplay.

Idk maybe they all worked from home and only paused hog-crankin' for meetings

Like I said earlier in the thread, Marvel Rivals (late 2024 launch) shows that if you put Chinks in charge of the development (not simply bankrolling it), add the booba, the money will flow in. You can just ignore the screeches of a few trannies and retards on Reddit. The strategy can't be copied endlessly due to market saturation, but having an existing IP helps.
Rivals' entire business strategy is literally just;

"Herro white pigu, we make anuda big boobie white woman fo yu. Prease remembah to buy di big ass skin in di sto."

And it prints them millions of dollars despite it being the definition of online zoomer slop. It's such low effort, easy money that the fact it's still so rarely capitalised on just shows how mindnumbingly retarded a lot of Western devs have gotten. And I say that as someone who doesn't even like gooner shit in my games, but I know it prints money if paired with even half-way competent game design. But I don't think even goon bait could have saved Highguard, I only played two matches but it was so mind numbingly boring it made nu-Marathon look like a stroke of genius in comparison.

I don't get the appeal of looters. It seems every game now is grind grind grind. If you get 10 pieces of x you can make 1 y and if you get 10 y, you can make 1 z.
Fuck you. I just need one more yellow herb to make one last G+R+Y mix and get max health for Leon.

Option A: Play Project Zomboid, driving a shitbox Pickup screaming down Dixie Highway and running over [urban youth] zombies while hollaring "GIT OWDAH 'ERE NICKUR" as your friend in the passenger seat is chambering rounds into his pumpy.

Option B: Play HighGuard. Where you can farm diamonds in your shooter while riding your horse in an empty map.

BUT WE PLUGGED OUR EARS AND KEPT SCREAMING THAT IT WAS A MASSIVE SUCCESS AND NOT A FLOP
HOW COULD THIS BE HAPPENING

As much as I intensely dislike modern Bungie watching delusional retards try and manifest Marathon's failure like white girls on tiktok is really fucking funny. I think Marathon will do just fine for itself even if it isn't as big of a success as Arc Raiders.
yeah it's not my fare at all but i saw a lot of people really enjoy the playtest. something that can't be said for highguard. seems like marathon will do alright to me
