All they have to do to succeed and print endless money is just make the characters conventionally attractive and stop trying to appeal to genderless blobs. Overwatch porn (and CCPbux) is like 90% of the reason that game got off the ground. Sex sells, Overwatch made money hand-over-doomfist, and I've yet to see one singular Tracer Butt controversy related to any of the ripoffs that came after.

But you can't do that in Current Year, because it's verbotten holy law to have sex appeal according to the genderspecials (who are always the coomer porn addicts behind the scenes anyway).
Like I said earlier in the thread, Marvel Rivals (late 2024 launch) shows that if you put Chinks in charge of the development (not simply bankrolling it), add the booba, the money will flow in. You can just ignore the screeches of a few trannies and retards on Reddit. The strategy can't be copied endlessly due to market saturation, but having an existing IP helps.

Total Gamer Victory. Post your grave dancing animation.

Yet somehow still lived longer than Concord.

These fucking CEOs don’t understand the gaming demographic at all. Glad to see them failing.
Let's see, last year the gaming demographic picked Hollow Knight Silksong and E33.
Silksong was on top of the most wishlisted games on steam for a long while.
This same year, sony released a God of War metroidvania, and even ubislop released Lost crown in 2024, though it was flopped because nobody gave a shit about it.

Honestly, I am actually seeing faint traces improvements, in the form of corpos vaguely attempting to reach for player demands, or rather looking at the popular stuff and demand subsidiaries to imitate it.

I feel like the issue isn't just that there isn't enough soul nor effort is put on those titles, nor that corporates are still appealing only to dudebros, while still making tasteless slop, I mean the issue is present, but I want to give more of the blame toward how said corpos soiled their own reputation in the past years; they slopified their own shit for years, their brand has become synonim with slop, and now people don't want to buy them anymore.
There was a time when triple A actually meant something, but nowadays gamers sneers at it like its some type of insult. This is the result of years of disappointment and mediocrity, and any possible course correction is gonna take even longer.

How badly will Geoff's intern get beat tonight?
That corporate shill geoff is unironically a retard cuck and I'm glad the game he liked so much got flanked and raped in gamer prison.
If only the same would happen to him...

It's over. Highguard will shut down on March 12th

I reckon the reason they're adding this stuff before shutting is they're hoping people will attempt to revive this game like they tried to revive Concorde, with the hope being if they get enough of a player base to start up around the game in a free/community run fashion they might be able to come back to it.
Not a strong theory I'll grant you, but I am kind of sure they might.

Why weren't there skill trees at lauch? I feel like it would be reasonable to expect such a basic feature after a six year development period.

While a lot of people have raised valid points, I want to raise another one: the totality of people playing live service games is a zero sum game.

Contrary to what some game execs seem to think, nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody plays more than one live service game. Any players a live service gets is because they took that audience from the player base of another live service

We like to point to Concord, but Concord wasn't even the first massive failure in the hero shooter library. That was Battleborn

The years since Overwatch are littered with the corpses of pretenders to the throne. For every Valorant that good off the ground there are ten LawBreakers

Making a hero shooter is just a completely retarded move at all at this point

I can't believe the people saying the game was bad and that they were uninterested in it managed to manifest delusions into reality and make the game bad and uninteresting. Hopefully no other indie studios secretly funded by a multi-billion dollar megacorporation falls victim to this same fate. History never repeats itself, and this is entirely distinct from every game studio trying to make the next Call of Duty pumping out the same game fifty-trillion times and failing because of it.

As much as I intensely dislike modern Bungie watching delusional retards try and manifest Marathon's failure like white girls on tiktok is really fucking funny. I think Marathon will do just fine for itself even if it isn't as big of a success as Arc Raiders.
For the amount Sony spent on Bungie anything less than 'all of the money' is going to be a failure though.

I think the best thing about this is the studio was established so they could have more creative freedom and better profit sharing with staff. I hope they all enjoy the share of the profit their create vision created.

I don't get the appeal of looters. It seems every game now is grind grind grind. If you get 10 pieces of x you can make 1 y and if you get 10 y, you can make 1 z. Every video game stream these days is someone looking at a menu trying to figure out what they can combine next. Then 2 minutes of actual gameplay "wow I got a purple item" and back to the menu for 40 minutes.

Rest in peace highguard. It was a close to somewhat decent week and a half I spent playing you while waiting for the Overwatch patch. In a different world where you actually made an indie game instead of LARPing as AAA with your CCP funding , where you didn't do the generic AAA artstyle but worse, where you didn't chase esports trends that died 10 years ago, where you didn't have the standard live service business model and pricing, I could see you having been a mild success. For what it's worth, I still had more fun playing it than Marathon. Maybe I'll play like 3 more matches this weekend if I'm really bored

>want creative freedom
>make generic soulless corposlop hero shooter
>want profit sharing with staff
>bomb so hard you have zero profit to share with anybody
kek

I created a litmus test that can predict if a game will flop or not with upwards of 90% accuracy. Does your game contain a character that looks like this man? If the answer is yes your game will probably not do well.

add the booba, the money will flow in
Rivals didn't succeed because of the booba or graphics, although they surely helped, but because they carbon copied overwatch gameplay which is an extremely well designed game, and the most important part of all, it released when OW2 was in the gutter trying to nickel and dime every penny they could from players while shitcanning the PvE.
This game could have succeeded even with the shit graphics and performance if the gameplay was good, but it just wasn't, people tried it and didn't like it, so they just fucked off somewhere else.
