Wasnt this thing's production done like a year ago? Is this normal for cartoons or are they waiting for a real anime dry spell?
Crunchyroll is being sold off by Warner media because they have no need for it because HBO Max is their baby and will now get all the anime series. HBO has bigger brand recognition as well.

HGS has supposedly been shelved and whoever is the unfortunate sucker who buys Crunchyroll will get that series with it.

Now before you celebrate, Warner Media has some real prudes working for it, so they could wind up really fucking up the english dubs and subtitle translations to suit their political sensibilities. Because now companies like Funimation have to work with a much larger company that has more influence than they do.

Plus, the whole thing about honorifics which is hugely weird to me. Most people call each other on a first name basis in the West, using surnames only when its a matter of respect or someone in a superior position. In Japan, its similar, but very different. Surnames are almost always used, as it is considered a sign of disrespect to use the first name as it donates intimacy and familiarity. Which is why when couples in anime begin calling each other on a first name basis and they get all flustered its basically an alien concept to me.

late reply, but english still has that too - usually you don't call everyone by his first name. there's even a extra pronoun like other languages have, even tho(u) it's not really used anymore.

So, apparently, HGS storyboards got leaked

Oh my God, Rosemary is wearing a stupid dragon onesie for... some reason. Guess it's something to wear to celebrate the festival going on or something.

Is that the cat girl, or...?

At least they're dropping the dreaded "d" word, since it still feels like a lot of kids' shows still won't say "dead".

So the conflict of one episode is to undo a petrification spell. Okay, but tell me again why I should be invested in this to even care about everyone being turned to stone? I get it we have this out-of-context, but I don't find this perilous or anything. Closest we got to some kind of crisis is Sage going "Oh my God, was this my fault?" but she wasn't even allowed to finish that sentence because I guess no one's allowed to make or admit to their mistakes and then fix them.

Also how normal is it to just storyboard every little action? I get it this was supposed to be put into a computer to act as a slideshow to show off the timing, but it was making my eyes stroke out.

Also I'm getting some Nin10Doh vibes from how Thyme was drawn here. She looks like an angry Link.

It makes me wonder if this show is pretty much dead but they are trying to save face given the "creative" force on it.

Is it possible the budget was severely cut and that's why all the clips so far have had horrendous quality?
Possible. I'm sticking to the theory that this was horribly mismanaged, or worse a con job, that the "diverse" creative team took the money and either ran away with it, or pissed it away. When the deadline arrived and they had no money and no show, so now whoever is left holding the bag is trying to cobble together the bare minimum with what little they have.

That's a bit different. Usually its precceded by a title, 'Dr.', 'Ms.', 'Mr.' and usually shown as a sign of respect. It isn't a great insult like it is in Japan or means you're very intimate with someone. You can also call someone by their first name too, like Dr. Mike or shit like that. And usually people of the same status (doctors), usually don't use titles, they use first names for each other (which is why when I get involved with professors and they use their first name I'm like 'who the fuck is that', then I get the email with their first and last name and I go ohhh).

So its pretty different and very informal. Japan's is really fucking formal.

I know they're just story boards. But ugly as fucking sin.

So you're saying don't hire people based on diversity and use their creative talent instead? WHAT A NOVEL IDEA

Also why would anyone watch this fucking garbage when there are ten bajillion animes about learning magic in High School, from Sci-Fi like The Irregular at Magic High School (whose MC is crafted out of pure autism) to fantasy. How is this even a unique concept? Fuck, Western creativity can't even take risks, they just have to copy other shit. Good fucking God.

It's GAY. Isn't that enough for you???

You know, back when I was still in Undergrad, my Organic Chem professor and I talked a lot. He was an immigrant from India who'd be living in the states for some 40 odd years. I don't know his political orientation, but he was conservative. We're just talking and one day when the pride parade was going on, he goes: "I don't have a problem with homosexuals. But why do they have to constantly flaunt it?"

I think that's a lot of straights complaints about 'the gays'. It constantly has to be in your face. You have to shout it from the rooftops. There's this one great skit on Key and Peele, where Peele was playing this normal dude in the office and Key was just this extravagant homosexual. He's got pink penises everywhere, plays hardcore gay porn as 'music' and talks about dicks constantly. Peele tells him its annoying and Key constantly calls him a homophobe. Turns out, Peele is gay as well. He just doesn't flaunt it. He looks like your everyday guy and you never even thought about his sexuality. And at the end of the skit, Key goes: "He's not homophobic, I'm just an asshole."

Like, even for straights, its considered low class and bad manners to talk loudly about sex in public places. We don't have 'straight shows'. Gays would say every show is straight, that's why they need to be different. I'm sorry, but you're a what, 4.5% - 5% LGBT? And then you have the 'Bs' who don't really care, so that eliminates probably 2 or so percent. And some trans are 'straight', so that eliminates another 0.5%. So what, you've got 2-3% who want everything fucking flaming? The loudest subset always seems to be the fucking minority of a minority.

"I NEED GAY CARTOONS, I LOVE COCK."

"Calm down, no one gives a shit anymore."

"I'M OPPRESSED!"

Honestly, I think its just gotten worse because a lot of people just really don't care about homosexuality anymore. Its basically a non-issue and even conservatives have accepted it. So you get this counter reaction that goes 'LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME' where they just. can't. shut. the. fuck. up. about being gay. I don't ramble on about being straight or needing straight shows, I probably know gay people in real life. Its just that shocker, they're like straights and don't blurt out their fucking sexuality every 0.35 seconds.

Its part of the reason why Americans are getting fed up with the LGBT (especially the T) population. Because its all about them. Yes, I'm sorry you were discriminated in the past. It was awful. I don't want to hear how you suck dick 24/7 just like I don't want a frat boy constantly talking about the sluts he gave herpes to. Congratulations, you're equal now. Fuck off like everyone else.

I find it funny because for as "progressive" as these types of shows brag about being, you almost never see a gay male couple or feature a bisexual male lead. It's always focused on lesbians and the soft cutesy shit. Just once, I think having two masculine gay guys would be pretty progressive as well.

These assholes have made Revolutionary Girl Utena less gay in comparison, but only if because actual transpeople don't exist in the show. Like no wonder Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network or whoever turned Raye down, next to the fact it's boring af, it's too gay for them, and that was all she would talk about when pitching the show. Hell, Netflix apparently wasn't on the table, but I'm willing to bet they would've turned it down anyway because it's not an existing IP to gayify like Voltron and She-Ra.

Just come out and admit you just want people to make porn art of your characters for your fap folder, Raye, don't pretend artists and animators aren't all perverts, because we artists are sure as fuck always thirsting after that 2D booty. That's what you're asking for when you're making a cast full of gay because that's literally what all the yaoi and the "uwu lesbians =3=" crowds do is want to make canonical gay porn. Tumblr's porn ban exodus proved just that.

There are reasons why that happens, some of which are called out by SJWs, but not often.

The most obvious is China, Russia, and the middle east don't like gay people, so they have to be easily edited out. The romance can't tie into the plot in a deep way.

Lesbians are often used as the "safe" LGBT choice because straight men won't object. The LGB won't object. That only leaves straight women, who are generally don't care about it. As long as it doesn't get too explicit, the previously mentioned non-progressive parts of the world can hand wave the gay away as them being close friends, which you can't do with butch, stoic alpha males.

This reminds me that they edited a lesbian dance scene in Steven Universe.
Guess the country.
The UK.
Is it officially kill now?
Out of the eleven so-called "Crunchyroll Originals", only six came out so far. Some of the remaining ones have their rough release dates announced, but HGS is not among them.
It'll probably come out in its full Calarts glory next year.

Give it two years, if everything I've read about the deal is true, they want to start bundling anime with playstation Now so people can have games and anime together.

HGS would ruin the billion dollar rollout and will probably be dropped on the service at 4am on a random day without fanfare.

The main positives now is that Bandai Namco can have it's ass on fire and start putting out games to series because now all US rights to Shonen Jump Series belong to Sony. I'm hoping the Missing Tales of Games finally get released in English.

As a bong I always found that edit weird. The episodes are sped-up on our Netflix too which is equally bizarre.

It varies from project to project (and even within them, from scene to scene), but usually you need to limit how many boards you need for actions, and the rest can be worked out during the layout stage.

In isolation, it is a bit weird. In context, it was hilarious. At the time games and anime were getting edited for sexual content. Anyone that didn't bend the knee was branded as "harmful" and "problematic". This censorship was dismissed with "they're a private company, it's only censorship when the government does it" and all the other stock excuses.

Right up until the moment their cartoon got edited and they flipped their shit.
