I kinda feel bad for Raye, like they could've got their show on Netflix or Cartoon network and it would've just been another Cal arts genderblob thing nobody but tumblr cared about but instead CR got involved and pissed off the weebs by wasting money on it instead of Japanese shows.

I think you're giving Raye and HGS a little too much credit there. HGS has been given several opportunities to be pitched for other studios and be presented in other mediums - including tv animation studios and a comic publisher - and all of them have seemed to have fallen through either because of mediocre presentation, or in the case of the comic did get approved but Raye never delivered out of either laziness or poor time management. HGS and Raye ended up on Crunchy Roll because no one else had low enough standards to take them and their "all female writers room" full of other rejects no one else in the industry wants.

Speaking of which, I'm a little confused as to what Raye meant that they just finished "mixing" episode 1. Video mixing isn't really a thing in animation unless you're trying to be really experimental, so does that mean they just got finished with the sound mixing? Meaning after all this time they likely don't have any animation, or even an animatic with keyframes, because you need to mix the sound before you can time out the dialogue properly? And is that tweet also suggesting that they're working on one episode at a time, and in order, instead of dividing the work so that teams are working on several episodes at the same time like a normal studio?

Because if so the amount of incompetence on display is almost fascinating.

Is she dressed as Hiccup? Why would you want to live in the days of the Middle Ages anyway? Yeah, the Renaissance was cool, but life was still shit for the 99%, and you couldn't be trans if your life depended on it. Also they burned witches.
Yup. Only if its his silly non animation its cool.
This just made me think of something. What happens when SJWs go to a serious Renaissance Fair? How do the actors approach the pronoun thing?
Easy, its a Renn Faire in Socal. Game Grumps frequent it yearly. They younger workers might pay it mind but I doubt the drunken veterans will give a damn.

It's more like sympathy or pity lol just that this would be a total nothing if it was released anywhere else. Though I would pay good money to see some of the pitches for this show

I can't say I feel the same given the circumstances. Pitying Raye for tossing her show at the first company to say yes with no questions asked when anyone with half a brain would realize that weebs were the exactly wrong demographic for this series, because doing the hard thing and actually reworking your pitch for other studios and trying again requires effort (or for that matter fulfilling the deal you've already be accepted), is kinda like pitying someone who gets fired or reprimanded at work for putting in less than the bare minimum, or pitying 4kids for everyone hating their shitty dubs. After a certain point they've clearly just brought it on themselves.

And why pay money when you can get it for free? This was shared a few pages back, but here's the pitch they threw together of Nickelodeon that got rejected. If this is any indication of what the final product will be like, I really don't know who Raye expected this to appeal to.

The pitch looks like a rough draft for a comic and that’s me being generous.

Well that was painfully boring, but I was thinking more Raye sat awkwardly across from some suits trying to explain how her show is interesting lol

I guess her tweet about wanting people to like her characters made me feel a little bad that most people won't, especially weebs.

Thinking about it, it's kind of pretentious to say "Be my characters' friends!" because you can't force people to like your creation. You need to have the confidence that your characters will be just fine, but you also need to be open to criticism so the characters can change accordingly, just like real people. I don't want to be friends with these characters as-is because they're boring when they're not being obnoxious. But also because they're not real. I'll like a fictional character when they prove themselves to be competently written, but I'm not going to become "friends" with them.

Also that's a phrase you only ever hear in children's shows like on PBS. Is that really your target demographic, Raye? I figure it is since you pitched to Nickelodeon once. But Crunchyroll's demographic isn't for kids. So why're you talking down to everyone like they're children?

I dunno, I guess I just can't feel bad about how most people won't like these characters when it's clear that between the designs being ripped off from other better anime, the boring archetypes & presentation, and the only additions made to these being the typical "diversity" schlock; them not being liked is gonna be all on Raye's own lack of effort and creativity.

That condesending tone irritates me especially. Nobody should be talked down to.

Thats pretty much their M.O, "you will like THIS OR YOU ARE A BIGOT", im just preparing for the inevitable cancellation or bashing to oblivion with the creator reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeing in twatter

Usually it's profoundly autistic fans who think characters are their friends or, more likely, their waifus. I've never seen a creator version of this level of autism.

OH MY GOD! What's wrong with your face?

That could be a passable first episode but it's so poorly written! Why did the Melinda confess right away that she's committing a crime and leave without a real attempt to hurt or kill the protagonists?
Is Melinda linked to a bigger group of bad guys or is she just the first antagonist in the line of upcoming enemies a la Dragon Ball?
The Tumblr humour is really prevalent in the dialogue, so much sarcasm, care-free and pompous attitude amongst them. I don't like any of the characters shown so far and it doesn't help that their personality differs by alignment.
Judging by the promotional art, it'll look more like a cartoon than an anime. Heck, it is a cartoon (presumably if the animation graphics are the same as the promo art) because the characters don't look like they're produced in Japan in any way. It looks like it's going to be a witch Steven Universe. Just because you have big eyes with white circles in them doesn't make it an anime style.
And of course, it's not Tumblr media without obligatory lesbians.

I would like to give it a fair chance so that:
A) I eat my words and think it's actually good in some way.
B) I can criticise it after actually seeing it, giving criticism based on the actual show and not just concept art.
C) It gets released and once again, shows companies that surface-level diversity is bad.
Are the producers still working on this? Did they get their proposal accepted and immediately announced it? Most likely by the looks of things.

The funny thing is, it's actually really easy to fix it just by shifting focus to the griffin. Here:

-Open with Rose and Sage(?) scouting for work at some gathering area for adventurers/guardians, have some banter establishing them as friends
-Discover a listing regarding the escaped griffin, including the reward if caught
-Rose and Sage set out to catch this griffin, but start to disagree on how to go about it
-This disagreement causes them to fail their first attempt, they fight and decide to go their separate ways
-Show Rose has the strength/skill to physically catch the griffin but none of the knowledge about the animal, so she fails on her own
-On the flipside show Sage has knowledge of the creature, but no athletic prowess to actually carry out the capture, so she too fails
-Both realize they're wrong and make up
-Their combined effort now allows them to catch the griffin and collect the reward.

Boom, done. Now you've established that Rose and Sage are friends despite being opposites, that they work better as a team than they do on their own, and sprinkled in a little bit about this setting and what their occupation entails, and that Rose and Sage will likely be frequently strapped for cash and ensure the need for more adventures.

I honestly don't get why Raye even went with this, other than this being thrown together at literally the eleventh hour and SJWs/Tumblrites have this weird aversion to conflict, even the resolvable kind.
