Maybe it's just me, but the project doesn't even look like it's using the $50 million. You'd think they could've been saving up for big-name voice actors and/or paying the writers/animators/director good money for being big names--but outside of probably Leth, the staff's a bunch of nobodies. So where the fuck's the money going? These snowflakes are pocketing most of it like the money-grubbing parasites they are, aren't they?

It's probably going for the purchase of mountains of horse piss pills, the severing of enough dicks to make a Great Wall of Dicks, and the construction of over 9,000 repulsive, diseased stink ditches.

I will reiterate for you.

You are fine to dislike and/or stop funding CrunchyRoll because you do not like what they are spending their money on.

However, many people seem to be mad simply because They were under the impression, That crunchyroll was supposed to be funding japanese anime with that.

And that's wrong, the way it's always been is when you pay your money to crunchyroll they give a cut of that to the anime you watch/'the industry' and then keep the rest.

Some people are actually mad because they thought crunchyroll wasn't supposed to be spending their profits on their own ventures and were under the impression that crunchyroll should be giving all of their money to the anime industry.

And that's exceptional, and not at all what crunchyroll ever claimed to be doing.

If your mad at the simple act of them spending their personal profits how they want, maybe you should not have given them money.

They are mad because crunchyroll has a long story of shit service, people go to crunchyroll to see their anime almost at the same time to japan, they are payed for that, people DID NOT ASK for High guardian spice, they never did, they are just funneling money that could be used in for example better translation or finally removing that abomination of a player they have, instead they are using the money of subscriber in a project that only exist to obviously push a agenda that no one gives a shit, you know what would have been a good idea? they could just do a virtual youtuber using their mascot, they could just have animated in flash the 4 komas they made of her and that thing would have been more popular that just creating a series that is surely going to fail big time

Is not that "they can do with their money what they want" is "they could have used that money in something better", i almost feel pity for the people that actually pay for it , if you actually know the industry you know that big part of the incomes come from INTERNATIONAL streams, is a common mistake with new persons in the fandom to believe that the revenue come from blu ray sells, it is not

I believe anime had a stronger influence on France compared to America. If that Daft Punk music video movie indicates anything, they love Leiji Matsumoto.

Yes, france has a huge fandom but in all the time i have been in the fandom the biggest scene i have seen are the brazilian one and the chinese one, the chinese ones ironically are become popular to the point that even the japanese are willing to work with them to animate their content (Hitori no shita comes to my mind), the chinese even have a huge manga and light novel scene that could easily compete with the japanese, the brazilians in the other hand back in the day had the biggest fansubbing scene you could ever imagine, i think they moved more bandwidth that nyaa or tokyotosho in a good day

While I'm remaining :optimistic: that Japanese studios won't be influenced by problem glasses, I do worry about it. Look at what Team Ninja is doing with DoA6 because of Western dangerhairs.

the DoA thing is more the publisher trying to make the release without much hassle almost all the time is them that cut content to prevent people bitching, but you also have Senran kagura in every console and pc know to man so your mileage may vary

The problem with the show isn't that Crunchyroll can/can't do what they want with their money. I think most of us in this thread can agree with that. The main issue is that all this time they've been parading themselves as the "one and true" streaming source for anime when in reality, their system is really lackluster. Why would this company who supposedly supports the anime industry, instead of giving that money directly to studios or fixing up their own website, waste it on a production that barely affects anything in the japanese animation market? How was it a better decision to make this cartoon that barely has a semblance to an anime?

Here's a list of things they could've done instead:

a.) getting talented workers or one worker who worked in the industry long term. The original 80's Thundercats cartoon had a Japanese animator at the time and he worked on the character design. Just one person could've helped shaped the general art direction of everything.

b.) Fix their site. What I mean is update the code, make it so a video doesn't play in the middle of where it started all the time and update crappy subs. Fix the general comment section, layout, etc.

c.) help give attention to studios/projects that are in the process of trying to make an anime, but still need funding. Their are studios on patreon now and as much as I know people don't like it, it's better to try and do something to help the general outcome be in a studio's favor.

Making your own "anime" only goes so far and unless you make something really, really good, it's not going to help much of anything. It's one thing to make a show because it's your passion. It's another to brag about being the savior of the anime industry from pirates and that because you're a woman, you don't need to try and have a proper trailer.

What I'm trying to say is that, if they didn't try and humblebrag, things would've gone a lot smoother.

They exist to make money, but they made it on the premise that they were supporting the medium.

Instead, they're bastardizing and destroying it and handing it over to cancerous scum.

I'd agree with you here really. I think perhaps some people may be interpreting me as talking about the majority of people complaining about this show, I am not. Who I am talking about is this small amount of people, that seem to believe that the money going into high guardian spice, is money that was supposed to go to anime studios and/or Crunchyroll was supposed to be putting all of their personal earning back into the anime industry. Which is silly and they never claimed to be doing that.

If someone is mad because they think crunchyroll is managing their money poorly that is fine, If someone is mad because they believed crunchyroll claimed to be spending all of their profits on anime, but decided to steal money away from those profits, they are wrong, this crappy show was funded out of Crunchyrolls own personal profits that were already being taken out of the money people were spending on crunchyroll. In other words, some people seem to be under the impression that crunchyrolls profits were always going to the anime industry and not crunchyrolls pockets.

I'm not talking about the hardcore customer base, I'm talking about people who are mad now that Crunchyroll is taking a cut of money for themselves, something they've always done. Something that's integral to successful business. they aren't a non profit org after all.

If someone is angry CR made this show that is fine, if someone is angry they helped fund this show by giving money to CR that is fine, if someone is angry that CR is taking money for themselves, they are dumb. My comments are directed at the latter.
This is the same business innovation that turned cable into a shambling corpse where half the channels are just infomercials, and they can't figure out why nobody under 60 wants to subscribe.

"For a show with so much support they sure are doing a lot of damage control and censorship."

This is yet another tone-deaf attempt to force SJW shit down the throats of very autistic people with very specific autistic tastes, in this case weebshit, who are almost uniformly disgusted with CalArts style shit. Trying to censor an opinion nearly universally held by the audience they're trying to sell it to can't possibly result in anything but absolute disaster.

So they want to create their Anime version of trans lifeline only that instead of "Helping" people to get in the industry they just want to scam people in pet projects that are never going to be real

I dont expect to much of Crunchyroll, even if they are assblasted by this they just can dismiss it as misogyny, then we are going to see they blaming pirates for their dying subscribers base

A Vulture Venture capitalist could probably clean up tbh. Launch a rival niche service that has none of this fuckery about it and bleed them white.

They'll be semi-right, but mainly because anyone who had a lingering vestige of conscience that caused them to pay for this shitty service will finally say fuck it and go full pirate, because pirated content is better and more convenient anyway.

You know you fucked it up when pirates offer a better service

No need for a new player, Amazon and Netflix are investing more aggressively into anime and the Japanese market every year. If they wanted they could run CR out of business.

It's been a standard for a while, since early computer games, where they'd often have ridiculous copy protection schemes that required you to jump through hoops just to play a game you'd bought, while the pirates would considerately remove that dumb shit.

I remember being a bit bummed out after Gen Zed predictably went down the shitter without producing as much as a pilot, but between this, Thundercats Roar and the new She-Ra it looks like I'll have plenty train wrecks to feel Schadenfreude over. It's gonna be glorious!
