I was reading a summary of the show, and the new magic/old magic stood out to me. Old magic has a cost on the Earth and new magic just doesn't...

Isn't that an allegory for eco-friendly energy? Because eco-friendly green energy works just as good and has no downsides whatsoever, right? Why do people still use old methods like coal and hydro, when we could all just use solar and wind generators, right?! People are stuck in their old ways and refuse to embrace new and better fonoraisin!

I think you got it the other way around: old magic takes longer but doesn't have an impact on the earth while new magic is much faster at the cost of world degradation.

The show never states that this is the case though, it just says that old magic has a cost and new magic doesn't. The show presents everything so poorly that any potentially interesting or good underlying idea that it presents cannot be definitively said to exist and any extrapolation on your part is not only you doing the writer's job for them but also putting in more thought than the writers ever did. Just save yourself the headache.

According to a few reviews, they were touching upon the hazardous implications new magic has on the environment because it's something Thyme was investigating, but that was revealed near the end, and the show hasn't been renewed for a second season (lol). Chances were highly likely that it was the works of the ebil huwhite men and no one else's fault.

See I also think it could be very interesting to introduce that conflict of "New Magic is killing the planet but New Magic is also literally the basic building block of all modern society so there isn't a clean and easy answer to this conundrum."

But I doubt the writers are that smart or had that much foresight.

Most writers these days don't even know how to properly tell actual narrative stories

Setup and Payoff are dirty words. Personally I blame that fat faggot Joss Whedon and that know nothing Jew Jew Abrams. All anybody knows how to write anymore is snark and mystery box.

I talked to a friend about this a while ago. He said Whedon ruined a whole generation of writers (like Ramona Flowers ruined women haha) with his insincerity and meta humor destroying immersion and intrigue that makes entertainment an enjoyable temporary escape. And he was right.

In HGS's case though? I remember it wasn't constantly telling you it's a fantasy world. But it was constantly telling you this was amateur hour. All pieces and no picture. Even the one interesting element of old v new magic was wasted for Rosemary's main character syndrome bs and Snapdragon's identity crisis. Which didn't have resolutions anyway so there was no point in any of this. Except for a laugh.

Firefly isn't good and I will hear nothing said to the contrary.
I never said it was. Just watch Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop instead. I did the whole song for fun.

Josh Whedon Ruined a Whole Generation of Writers

DVDS and Sci-Fi fantasy, conceited with over inflated self-esteem
He's a indie darling if you hate good films
Shiny bald head and lumberjack clothes
Thinks Star Trek's post-scarcity is the way to go
He's a nerd, a dork, a dime-a-dozen Kevin Smith
Fluoxetine mind and uses HDMI
A wide eye stare for all those showtimes
That he posted, reviewed and upvoted on Reddits boards
Retarded views on politics
Likes to listen to 8-bit indie game music
He drinks IPAs, vapes and talks about Brian K. Vaughan

[Chorus]
He saw Buffy the Vampire Slayer
And felt it answered a prayer
By a tv show made in Hollywood
It's sad to think he's someone's son
Like a dodo becoming undone
But honestly, I'd bully him if I could

[Verse 2]
DVDS and pulp fantasies, 30 years old but lives at home like he's 16
Goes to film festivals 'cause he's so fucking 'cool'
Styled mustache hair but dead inside
MUBI and Filmfree subscriptions online
He's a nerd, a dork, posted on Ain't it Cool since middle school
Only Lesbian's in denial think he's anything worthwhile
His infantile lifestyle will drive you wild
He's an soyfaced wojak loser bitch that likes to watch shitty films on Netflix
He drinks and smokes and sucks Much Ado About Nothing's dick

[Chorus]
He saw Serenity
And felt so giddy
By a movie made in Hollywood
It's sad to think he's someone's son
Like a dodo becoming undone
But honestly, I'd bully him if I could

[Outro]
He saw Marvels Avengers
And felt so emotionally centered
By a movie made in Hollywood
It's sad to think he's someone's son
Like a dodo becoming undone
But honestly, I'd bully him if I could

He saw Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
And felt a religious zeal
By a TV show made in Pedowood
It's sad to think he's someone's son
Like a dodo becoming undone
But honestly, I'd bully him if I could

I'd disagree with that. They clearly put a lot of thought into it - they were just untalented hacks, so their thoughts weren't about coherency and worldbuilding but about making hamfisted troon characters and Magical Girls doing stupid things over photostock backgrounds.

It's wrong to think they didn't care. They cared deeply, especially about their self-inserts. They just had no skills and no desire to develop them, because that would be The Patriarchy.

And I fully agree with that but the people I were speaking to in this case were trying to use their brain meats for constructive, story based, thinking. You cannot do that with something like this born from a purely allegorical mindset, down that path lay naught but madness.

There are minor updates. Raye has been “looking for work” all year in LinkedIn, implying the lions gate deal she had did not work out.
She also posted this on October 10th, which is cryptic and without context. One can say animation is in a bad place right now. And they’d be right. But I think there’s more going on with Raye in particular.

I won’t go into too much detail, but through a weird twist of events I found out that I’m 1 degree of separation from Raye. we have never met and I have no plans to ever try to meet her, so that’s not exactly identifying info on my part. Anyway, through this I learned that she was so desperate for any fandom whatsoever that she personally followed any Twitter account that posted porn. Both because there was barely any of it and because that was the closest thing to a fanbase HGS will ever have. Kinda sad really,
