I'm still unsure what the entire point of High Guardian Spice is. I know Crunchyroll isn't full of the brightest people around but why would a company whose entire purpose is to cater to weebs and distribute anime waste time and resources with this cheap looking cartoon about trannies?
Because troons hate anime that's why, so give them a low-budget cartoon anime and receive praise for representing minorities in an "anime" and for hiring troons.

How much more refreshing would it be if he was a feminine guy, who during the course of the show slowly learnt to embrace his femininity and accept himself for who he is and eventually stood up to the people who abused him?? Without all this trans bullshit? AND staying 100% straight and cis (and getting the girl)? To prove that straight men can be feminine too, without being seen as a joke?

I'm asking too much, aren't I?
This is basically just Kanji from Persona 4. But the character arc completely goes over the heads of the HGS crowd and they to this day just insist that he's gay, throwing away a whole game's worth of character development.

now there's a spicy fucking take

Always gets to me how they do the bean mouth to avoid sharp angles. I'm convinced at this point they do it to express that the character is childish or 'soft'. Cause you'll find they have sharper angles on the characters meant to be more mature or evil.
I kinda like this idea of having young characters look a bit round while the adults are much more filled out and angular especially since nowadays, shows don't really have hard, pointed lines anymore because "hard lines are scary and too pointy for kids". Raye supposedly grew up watching '90s and early-naughts anime where there was still pointed angles and the like, so why she couldn't have that be in the character designs because "it's easier on the animators" is beyond me.

The "evil characters have sharper angles" I think is more of a CLAMP trope than anything else, though their older male characters tend to look like that regardless of which side they're on.

So I almost want to give Raye credit for this because I can at least tell she likes CLAMP's stuff (Magic Knight Rayearth being the big one), but the difference between her and CLAMP is that CLAMP gives characters sexiness where appropriate. There's no sign of anything sexy in HGS.

I honestly cannot stress enough how much I hate this type of character. The message behind it is simply horrible and it can be downright harmful to people who struggle with similar issues. "Oh? You don't act like a literal stereotype of your sex 24/7? You clearly must be an opposite sex then, go transition immediately!!1!"

This is a character that got literally bullied into being trans and they treat that as a good thing?? Fuck this bullshit.

You're asking for Real Men Wear Pink and Agent Peacock - this is troonphobic in this day and age! Sad!

I swear I remember there was a story of a teachers at CalArts actually poking fun at someone not doing the curves over angles and suggesting it made the person's cartoon characters look like something out of a Don Bluth movie. So I think it isn't from anime so much as something they're taught now in school as being the New Hotness that everyone needs to copy rather than be unique or giving their characters realistic movement.

Fucking called it: https://twitter.com/i/status/1453582655845543936

So, in our progressive show about giving positive representation to transgender folk, the motivation for our dude wanting to transition is: His asshole brother kept calling him girly, he's not traditionally masculine and he really likes the girls who are really the only people he interacts with on this show. Basically, this show is making it look like he only 'feels wrong' because people keep insulting him for not being manly enough.
And this is how you ruin people!

It's amazing how they could make something that looks so bland and generic even for generic magic girls shit. Many of the voices suck, the designs are all over the place, like seriously I get that haha cat animu girl has to be a thing in wokanime but is there any type of in universe explanation as to why they exist besides the animators having the necessity to do that stupid smug cat face they love so much? And I still don't get this thing in modern animation where they have to constantly show the characters painted nails, maybe it's my autism speaking but that feels so unnecessary and kind of distracting, still of keeping track of that the animators should have concentrated in more important things like the proportions and perspective because as show in this thread is also fucked.

But it's the writing that takes the cake, oh boy, it's like all those parodies of modern cartoons when they want to be diverse up to 11: all the girls are either lesbian or bi and all of them are badasses, you have the shitlords that hate woman and gays as bullies, you have scenes where the sexuality of a characters comes into play constantly, the hamfisted Old vs New theme where is done in such a infantile way where you are wrong for doing things in the old way, the laughable attempts at sounding mature with the characters saying shit and the best of all the magic troon that grooms the redhead faggot with a siren fetish into becoming a troon himself while also being in love with the blue hair chick which will also make her a lesbian, no heteros!!!

So this is the power of a diverse industry? Man, now I feel robbed that we never got Gen Z, because even as a dumpster fire this show sucks. But I laughed at the final episode when they tease a second season knowing well that this shit is dead in the water.

Has anyone pirated this yet? I can't find it on KissCartoon and the like, and that's the only way I can start analyzing and riffing on this series episode by episode because I'm a masochist, I just refuse to give Crunchyroll any views.

And I'm serious, I'll take the bullet and do screencap recaps like I did in the Higurashi thread, but only through pirating.
Anime pirates are not pirating HGS, because it's not an anime.
Cartoon pirates are not pirating HGS, because it's on CR and they are not prepared to pirate from there.
Anyway, I found two sources:

I can't seem to watch anything from the bottom, and the Arabic source looks legit. I'm trying to download the first episode to make sure it works. If it does, I'm getting all 12 episodes to then start my masochistic play.

At least the dead eyed stare matches.

This clearly is the worst use of money to fund an "anime". Crunchyroll should have produced Big O Season 3 instead.

I hate that we'll never get Big O Season 3.
It's only the worst thing Crunchyroll has done since it hurt their anime charity service grift they were going for and it doesn't help the show is garbage with some terrible voice acting

... If the professor takes potions every month to keep his body male, shouldn't he be voiced by a biological man? I assume that since the potions turn him into a biological male, they'd have some sort of effect on his voice and give him a naturally and actually male voice instead of Raye's ridiculously girly alto.

Hearing what is blatantly a woman's voice come out of the mouth of a male-looking character is so jarring and takes me out of the scene even more than I already was. Absolutely terrible casting, frankly.
That wouldn't be proper trans representation, nazi scumbag! We need a reedy, hormonally altered woman with extra chromosomes to properly portray our perfect, magical troon charachter!
