You want to know how to do a lesbian or yuri show correctly with actual adventure, plot, maturity, and character development? Try something like Madoka Magica. Shit is literally a genuine solid 10/10, go watch it and the Rebellion movie already if you haven't. Just don't lose your head while watching it.
Raye did. She thought she could do better.

Madoka at least sets its tone in the first ep when these fellas turn up

Which is ironic, considering these are the same people who complain about sexism and boobs in anime, yet also chant "SEX WORK IS REAL WORK".
It's also funny considering that, despite this show being written by fat white females, the most interesting characters in this show, at least in my mind, are the men. They're much more characterized than the women and the femboys, who are just seen as bitchy, petty and childish with dyed hair.

Parnelle - black autist who is also an atheist
Slime Boy - content stoner dude who can play the saw
Neppy Cat - do I really need to say anything?

And I'm not the only person who thinks this.

How could they fuck even that message up?

I mean there was the purple haired girl who was more interesting than the main cast only because she was written as a bitch and has more personality than most of the characters.

It’s really a common thing in bad writing how characters who are assholes or complete idiots stand out more on virtue of having more personality.

Axe Girl
Snapdragon
Parnelle
and Slime Boy are the best characters in the entire show also Snapdragon should just stay a femboy there's already a trans character the west doesn't have many femboys in cartoons how come he has to want to be a girl to wear make up and dresses and have pearl skin? It's so weird these type of people want to break "gender norms" but at the same time enforce them on GNC people calling them eggs which is super fucking weird especially if the GNC person is a minor.

Everyone complaining about how badly handled Snapdragon's insecurities were ignores that his VA said they built the character off of him. Snapdragon didn't get bullied for not being masculine and then the writers determine the best solution to this arc is to become a woman. What happened is that they diversity hired and then worked backwards with a character they already had to force it to be a self insert, ignoring the implications because no one who makes self inserts thinks about what they're doing beyond 'IT ME!'
That's crazy.

BTW, it might have been posted before, but here it comes: this show actually has merch!

I really hate to admit it but I do think the little chibi drawings are pretty cute, they just have a lot of personality to them and I feel like I can get a solid read on everyone's personality and character just from pose, palette, and expression, which is the point of a visual medium. I'd never buy merch for this show though. Not because the show is bad (which it is) since I can separate a cute drawing from the show itself but instead because the show was made using misappropriated funds that a sleazy company lied to their most loyal supporters to raise before stabbing those same supporters in the back and then blaming them for being unhappy about it.

So congrats Crunchy Roll, even if this show would have been great you would have created people like me who will not support it or you out of frustration over your treatment of your fanbase to get it made. I wasn't even a subscriber, I was a pirate before it was cool, I had no skin in this fight, but you managed to rub even me that wrong.

I agree, but the Rumiko Takahashi inspiration distracts me so much that all I see are Ranma 1/2 characters. Like Sage is clearly Akane with Ranma's hairstyle, and Thyme is either Shampoo, Tatewaki Kuno, or Nabiki--if not a combination of all three. Parsley is probably Ten from Urusei Yatsura, and Rosemary is just Madoka if she was a Rumiko Takahashi character--but she makes me think of Ryouga.

Honestly rubs me the wrong way.

They knew what they were doing, trying to trick people into thinking these designs are fine because it makes you think of whatever other anime that you like and thus you feel nice seeing these designs
It's downright scummy but fits with the type of people behind this show

Personally that sort of thing doesn't bother me, good artists copy great artists steal and all that. Frankly even if it is a ripoff of someone else's style it isn't a full on trace or recolor and so it still takes some amount of talent to draw up.

It seems CrunchyRoll's users agree with you there @Sleazy Car Salesman:

People are PISSED. And it honestly couldn't have happened to a more deserving dumpster fire.

Yeah, it makes me think of ValiDate, the aggressively woke dating simulator/likely vaporware that we have a thread on. The characters are all self-inserts from a bunch of different insufferable artists, and the only ones that have anything resembling a character are the straight black guy who seems to be an antagonist, and the white Italian guy they put in because they reached a ludicrous stretch goal and therefore expected to get shit on mercilessly.

But then, a lot of the people behind ValiDate (before the loudest black woman in the bunch clearly power-grabbed and kicked everyone else off the project) couldn't even make their self-inserts people you'd ever want to spend time with - having a lack of personality and character would be a blessing compared to the assholes they created for representation. It's the age-old SJW problem, where they think the right politics is more important than talent, can even replace it if necessary, because if it says the right things it's automatically 'good', no matter how dogshit it actually is, quality-wise.

There's definitely nothing wrong with cribbing art style or character designs as long as you do something else with them (Akane with Ranma's hair is 'doing something else' even if it's only minimal) though some artists get testy about it, anime does it all the time. Look no further than all the anime and manga constantly ripping off Fate/Stay Night or Dragonball designs and art for their style (Naruto and I believe Black Clover directly state their artistic inspiration and who they try to copy is Toryama, artist of Dragonball). Nobody really complains when the Bloody Emperor in Overlord looks like Gilgamesh or Violet Evergarden looks like Saber. The issue is that when everything is derivative and poor quality in your anime, when you can't even do your own art style or character designs that's just one more black mark standing out against you for it.

I have to admit these are kinda cute, but they unfortunately highlight the ugly lack of cohesion between the four main girls. The yellow, blue, and pink ones are all jumping in the air, their poses energetic and dynamic. Meanwhile, the brown (no, wait, green? I hate her color scheme so goddamn much) one is just standing there. I get that she's supposed to be the serious one, but she sticks out like a sore thumb. Especially since her colors are so muted and dark when compared to the bright tones of the others. Seriously, who the fuck okayed that?

That’s because she’s meant to be sidewise.
