Re: How Was Your Day?

Cold, wet, stormy day here. Not wanting to go out much, and my sweetbolt is home today, I've just been sitting around drinking coffee with Bailey's mixed in and listening to Yngwie J. Malmsteen, will probably cuddle with my sweetbolt and possibly go to Goodwill or something later.

One of the assistant produce managers had his last day of work today. I'll miss him. At least I got to tell him (and other coworkers and customers) about my new dog.

We have the pets thread. Tell us about your new pup, too. :D

Re: How Was Your Day?

I'm a little procrastinated on recording for the past 4 days. I'll record the part 10b of my Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones tomorrow for sure.

Re: How Was Your Day?

I came into work today with the ac units out. Or server is down. I do not know how bad this could be. Potentially if something really bad happened, we could lose 25 years of footage.

Re: How Was Your Day?

Me and two board members from my primary client will be taking the afternoon off, to fire off a few hundred rounds at the rifle range. We've got to warm up for this weekend, where a bunch of factory reps (supposedly Springfield Armory, Sig Sauer, and S&W) will be at an upstate range with a bunch of things to try out. I'm not really looking to buy anything, but it seems a shame to miss an opportunity to get my greedy fingers on some shiny new hardware. Had also my first ever maple bacon donut. It most certainly will not be my last. :D

I was actually having a discussion with my friend because I got some money from working and was considering purchasing my first firearm (the ones I have are passed down, which is totally legal in Texas). What sucks is that I can only buy long guns because I'm 18. I have to wait 4 more years to buy a handgun. Although I can buy one if my dad permits it. So anyways, I was thinking if my dad didn't mind me paying for a handgun, I should get a shiny new S&W model 60, as I'm becoming a fan of .38 revolvers as well as snub nose revolvers. I also want to find the closest range and a place that will sell .38 ammo to someone my age so I can finally shoot off a few rounds, as it's been faaaaaaaaaaaaar too long since I've done so. I'd still have to wait until I'm 21 to get a concealed carry license. :/ So I can either save up for one of those, or save even more money and buy myself that 500 I wanted so badly my whole life.

Anyways, onto my day, it would've been pretty good if it wasn't for the fact that I forgot my phone. Both of my instructors were out, and all we had to do was sign in verifying that we showed up to have our time wasted. Got breakfast as well, two tacos, coffee, and a bottle of tea from a vending machine. The trip home sucked because all the stations I listen to were all playing ads at the exact same time, and it didn't stop until I pulled into the driveway.

Re: How Was Your Day?

Drank my way through a twelve pack, a bottle of bourbon, and a bottle of vodka last night during my roomate's birthday piss-up. Woke to find my apartment trashed beyond the realms of sanity, all our food and drink had been splatted on the walls, the ceiling and on everything we owned and reduced to a shit smelling gunge. The building manager is charging us all £250 despite us cleaning it up, and the roomate who did it is too much a scumbag to admit it, and tried to blame the birthday boy's hot cousin because she rejected his drunken attempt to fondle her.

It may be the fact I am suffering an apocalyptic hang over, but I am seriously planning poisoning him with bleach the next time hes drunk.

A pal of mine has the S&W revolver bug, and has a few 1965 low-serial-number gems in his safe. Unfortunately, we never get to shoot them, but they're said to be pretty nice shooters if properly maintained. Personally, I'm more of a Ruger person, if only because a Ruger SP-101 was the first decent AMERICAN gun I could afford when I moved to the US - it's one of the few things I'm sentimental about. Still, my personal protection pistol is an S&W M&P9 with night sights and a Crimson Trace laser. I might get the M&P Shield if they ever pass CCW laws, or I move to a more accommodating state. S&W is quite fine by me (even their Sigmas, if I get to inspect it first).

Unfortunately, now is a very rough time to start building your collection. In light of many efforts of elected and appointed officials to undermine the Second Amendment, prices for firearms, supplies, and ammo have skyrocketed. It's a seller's market, right now. Any of the AR-15s I assembled for about $900 ~ $1000 (mixed lowers, BCM or Rainier uppers) in 2008, could sell for about $1300 ~ $1600 depending on if I want to sell local or nationwide. Most of my AK-pattern guns - once inexpensive workhorses - have nearly doubled in retail price. I'll never sell any of them, but just goes to show how crazy prices have spiked. Hopefully, in a few more years, this hysteria will settle down along with prices.

BTW, I'm now hooked the maple bacon combination. I had a maple bacon vanilla milkshake with my dinner. I feel grotesquely full, and bloated... And, yet, I feel satisfied. (:_( **stress sigh**

My grandfather's got a few Rugers, but he's very attached to them and won't give them up. I actually wasn't a fan of S&W until a few months ago (although I did always want a 500 because holy fuck just look at the thing). I just sort of started looking into them one day and realized they're the neatest little things, even if I've always been a fan of rifles. Although if there's one thing I know, I'm probably not gonna deck out my gun with all sorts of fancy modifications and what not. If I need to shoot someone in the dark, I really am dumb enough to run straight up to the guy and shoot him in the gut if he's firing at me or coming at me with a knife or something. I also used to be really accurate when I would shoot. I assume that hasn't changed over the years. I hope so, anyways...

Guns are definitely becoming more pricey, but I don't think the government has anything to do with that. I think it's the idiots that think the government has something to do with it and are buying more guns than ever, which prompts the companies to raise their prices because they know their guns will be in demand. If everyone stopped freaking out about regulations and background checks and stopped piling up their guns, the prices would probably drop. Then again, that's not something I've ever really worried about because my guns were passed down to me, and this is the first time I'll purchase a gun if I raise enough cash in time. Still sucks that I have to wait a whole 4 years (actually, more like 3 and a half) to buy a handgun.

Oh, and if your state doesn't have CCW laws, don't just move to a state with CCW laws, move to one with open carry laws. Those states are Arizona (I have a friend there who fell in love with the state as soon as he moved there because of this), Alaska, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and New Mexico, and I've heard about some people being able to open carry in Colorado (which is arguably one of the most beautiful states in the country). Places like California, New York, and (unfortunately) Texas do not allow open carry most likely because of the large populations, considering that Texas is the red state.

Why would one want to do that?

My day was good. Watched the Life After People DVD set, went to Goodwill and almost bought a cube-shaped 1970s Realistic Weatheradio (presumably a compact weather-band radio) until I saw that it had no bottom cover over the battery and that it had a corroded 9-volt snap terminal.,

Re: How Was Your Day?

I had a great day.

This morning I went to a Toastmasters meeting and heard four great speeches. I know most of the people there from another club, but this one only meets once a month. I was a guest, but I got a speaking role in the round table evaluations.

My afternoon was pretty busy, too.

The evening's entertainment was a private school production of "The Sound of Music" by both high school and elementary school kids. This is the first time I've seen the entire musical, and I actually enjoyed it because I usually don't like musicals, they just seem silly to me. I've known Emily, the girl who played Maria (the lead female role), since she was two years old, and now she's almost 17. I felt a little emotional seeing her onstage in a wedding gown, even if it was just a play. There were some other kids in the cast that I've known for a long time, too, some since they were born. There's a different feeling when people you know and love are in a play.

Re: How Was Your Day?

I finally figured out why my trackpad on my MacBook wasn't working correctly. The damn battery under it was bulging. Gotta go by a knockoff battery off ebay now.

Re: How Was Your Day?

Went to a huge flea market with Yanachu yesterday, she bought a fuckton of jewelry, a dreamcatcher and a knockoff Prada handbag, I got a portable 8-track player, a never-used 1971 Bell System rotary phone in its original plastic wrapping and a model of the Starsky & Hutch car.
