For some uncertain reason you suddenly swap consciousness' with your parent of the same sex. Any skill needed to do your parents work is retained in their body for some reason (lets say its muscle memory or something). The problem is: you are the only person to know that this situation is not how its supposed to be.
Now what do you do?
Do you try to play along? Do you run away trying to vanish and build a separate life far away? Do you try to explain it to your swapped parent/family risking being called a loon?
(In case your parents are deceased you can assume this happened when they were still alive.)

If I'm the only person to know this happened, what does my mom in my body think happened? Or are there just two of my consciousness, but one of us is in the wrong body?

If we're both aware, it would be prudent to make the next decisions together. We could probably keep it quiet after reading in the rest of the immediate family, so after that I'd keep an eye on news stories about this happening to anyone else, or public figures having sudden personality changes.

I read Freaky Friday a very long time ago so I forgot what switched them back, although IIRC it was the mother's doing (the book was written from the daughter's PoV) so I guess I have some questions to ask my mom.

No, your mother in your body has no information about this having happened or this being a weird situation. For some reason from her perspective she has been your daughter all her life. Which is exactly what makes this hypothetical weird. Its a bit inspired by that saying of wether a tree falling makes a sound if nobody is there to listen.
Is it permanent?
It may or may not be permanent. You have no information about the mechanics or reasons behind this happening. The only thing you do know is that it did happen.

Huh. Well, in that case, she's gonna do fine in my body, but I'm probably going to get worked up for dementia pretty soon.

I guess I would try to rationally explain my situation to the people close to me, it would be nice to be tall but I would miss.... Well not much about my body really, but still it's mine and my old man shouldn't be forced to endure living in it. I would try to make things easier on the both of us and hope it's not permanent
