I read “Iron Lords of Jupiter” in a Dungeon magazine from twenty years ago and it stated that you can easily update planetary romance to (then) modern times by having a heroine rescuing princes.

Again, this was written twenty years ago as a love letter to planetary romance. Fans of the genre have known for decades that the original stories were behind the times and wrote new stories updated for the times thru small tweaks. They didn’t despise the genre and desire to tear down the foundations.
Yes they did. They just didn't have the culture on their side at that particular time yet. And the very idea of something being "behind the times" is Whig History bullshit that tries to paint Progressivism as the end state of history, when we have no idea what the cultural/racial makeup of the world will be in 100 years, thanks to major changes in racial makeup and mass immigration. Your great great great grandchildren (should you even have any) may be wearing burkhas and forbidding women from driving.

So I shouldn’t criticize an author as “behind the times” for depicting slavery as morally good because in a century it might be back in style?

That’s more depressing than anything else.

Anyway, I don’t agree with the assertion that everyone who desires to tweak genre conventions (particularly stuff like proscribed gender roles) necessarily hates the genre. He-Man is planetary romance to a degree, but nobody is upset it has strong female characters.

Comparing portraying slavery as a positive to a hot dude rescuing a hot princess is a little much, don't you think?

He-Man is a cartoon aimed at young boys to be a masculine power fantasy. It's right there in the name, He-Man. Gender identity is it's entire identity. If you want to repackage old 80s cartoons to sell it back to millennials for easy money by triggering nostalgia the least they could do is understand the fundamental identity of the show is about the masculine ideal. It feels to me like you're missing the point a bit. The fact it has strong female characters doesn't have any relevance to the fact nobody was watching He-Man for strong female characters, otherwise it would've been She-Her wouldn't it?

You aren't wrong, necessarily, but in this specific context and situation, the people behind the reboot (and many others) do hate the genre as well as other genres and their conventions and that's the main motivator to change everything about them.

And you don't even have to hate something for being a "danger" to a franchise, tbh. There is a certain type of arrogance I see a lot on people who claim to love something while, at the same time, pretend that they understand the subject better than the author (e.g. Game of Thrones): then they feel entitled to change the original content for their idea of how it would be better and, most of the times, they ruin it.

There are a lot of factors for someone to radically change some lore that has been already established, and it's often one of three: 1. they hate the original content, 2. they don't understand the content or 3. they think they can do better than the author because they're obsessed over something and have proclaimed themselves as the owners of it, even above the creator.

In the case of many recent media reboots, it's actually the three of them: they hate something because they don't understand it and they think they can do better than the original author. So far, all of these reboots have ended up terribly wrong.

Because as we all know, changing an established character's sexuality is perfectly okay as long as the character is straight.
I saw this in the recent Transformers: Kingdom. They made Blackarachnia “gay” for Arcee and Airazor (both of whom are transfem in certain continuities, coincidentally) even tho the character has traditionally been paired with Silverbolt and Optimus Prime (and one-sidedly crushed on by Cheetor, Wasp/Waspinator and the Dinobots).

In the context of the Transformers mythos, they’re still robots. They’re not actually male or female. E.g. in Beast Wars II, Leo Prime asexually births a clone of himself. Some youtuber even argues they’re all automatically queer because they have no biological sex.

Sorry but I'm not going to watch some nasally voiced troon unironically try and explain why giant transforming robots are actually intrinsically LGBT. Even I have limits.
I didn’t watch it either. I thought it would be a funny rebuttal to this new trend of changing transformers’ established orientations. “Blackarachia and Silverbolt are the same sex (asexual robot), and Tigatron’s beast mode is female, so it’s queer erasure to pair Blackarachnia up with Airazor. Hurr durr.”

Pretty much everyone who writes an article or records a video on transformers romance nowadays is gonna mention how problematic it is that there aren’t enough LGBT robots. Which doesn’t even make sense since they’re robots that reproduce asexually, and the bloggers will usually point that out.

Transformers having any concept of sex is weird from the get-go, given that they were all spawned from a living mechanical planet and didn't discover biological life for some millions of years after their creation. I guess it could be argued that the sentience inside the planet was aware of sex and intentionally programmed the transformers into male and female for reasons of its own, that's really the only explanation that could make any sense.

If you are a grown ass man who is mad regarding the changing of cartoons specifically made to sell toys, you really need to rethink what youre doing with your life.

No one who buys He-Man toys wanted this "changing of cartoons", you sped.

Imagine you're a Knight Rider fanatic and buy toys of K.I.T.T, then they go and change him to a mustang.

According to the latest “canon”, fembots are all partial clones of Solus Prime. Who resembles a human female physically and psychologically thru sheer chance.

It’s a toy franchise originally aimed at pre-adolescent boys. We can’t expect it to be founded on rigorous science.

All pop culture media is made to sell merch these days (funko pops, home goods, shirts, bags, con tickets) settle down there champ.

On a late note: warned y’all. Same shitty studio that ruined Castlevania. Impossible for them not to parade their mental disabilities as “creativity” at this point. Plus Kevin Smith...lol.

Jokes on you, because we can always write fanfiction. (I’m not sure whether to say that sarcastically or not.)

At this point, I’ve long since realized that if you want something done right then you do it yourself. Franchises are combusting left and right, so that’s really the only choice.

We have to make our own stories about warrior taoists in space, beefy men in leopard skin bikinis fighting space demons, eyeless penis-headed nightmares that eat your face, space federations peacefully exploring the galaxy, etc. Hollyweird is too fucked to do it right.

Of course the libtard with 50 following of his bland podcast is calling this show "groundbreaking" and sucking on Kevin's fat cock. Water is fucking wet.

And scrolling down the comments, if it has a negative reaction, expect the person or his friends to dogpile like their life depends on it :story:

Dodging the question there but okay.

Nigga, people have a right to be pissed when Silicon Valley shitheads fuck with something they like. Doesn’t matter what it is.

So, now there's just an entire race of blue skinned creatures who specifically have their head flesh burned off? I thought Skeletor was a case of magic, not that he was actually born that way.
