Edit: Also wanted to add that it's pretty much the same way with the background Sinners too. They're all unreasonable assholes until the exorcists are involved. Then they're showed in a more sympathetic light so we as the audience can pity them.

The one image Vox showed of past exterminations where a group of demons were lined up to be decapitated was so over the top. You mean to tell me what the angels do during their purge is worst than what Hell's residents do to themselves?

And it's not even that bad either, the headsman's axe is a damn slight more merciful than most other historical forms of execution and it befits a Christian faction to follow a form of execution which allows for the executed to repent prior.

why do they give a fuck at all? they kill each other all the time. There is literally no reason a single demon should care unless a close "friend" died because of it.

I saw someone bring up God, The Devil and Bob in this thread in relation to Hazbin and I wanted to talk about something that happened in the former that I don't believe has been explored in the latter and may never be.

In the episode "Bob's Father", when Bob's father dies Bob is upset when he finds out that he actually went to Heaven instead of Hell, since he was abusive to Bob his entire life. He has a heart-to-heart with God about it and it went something like this:
  1. God tells Bob that ultimately he's not required to forgive his father for what he did - in fact He tells him that he's right to be mad at his father for the way he treated him.
  2. God says that ultimate forgiveness is His job. He tells Bob about his grandfather, who was ultimately more abusive to Bob's dad than he ever was to him. Bob rightfully points out that it didn't justify anything his father did to him, so God frames it differently. What God told him was that his father did his best to "pass down a softer punch", which is to say try to be a better father. But it's likely that the trauma Bob's father experienced warped his views of what was right and what was wrong, so even if what Bob's father was doing was better relative to his father, to Bob it was indeed abusive. What mattered was that God saw that Bob's father was genuinely trying to better himself despite what happened to him, and that doing so proved he was able to enter Heaven.
The concept of "passing down a softer punch" is effective because it ultimately shows a positive domino effect when you try to change your own behavior. You pass down a softer punch to your son, who passes down a softer punch to his son, and eventually the punch is so weak that you can't even feel it. I have the feeling that Vivziepop may want to explore this but is unable to because of the retarded fandom thinking it's glorifying abusers, when it's ultimately about accountability.

I remember that episode, and I believe it was probably the best episode of the series. It also showed how Bob risked on becoming "an asshole" if he allowed his feelings to dictate his life, instead of learning to understand why was his father like that.

Not to mention the raping, blackmailing, mutilating, consuming, exploiting, and whatever messed up thing you can think of happening to them by each other for the rest of the year. I'm sure a lot of Sinners just willing give themselves up to exorcist so they don't have to live with the eternal suffering. Of course, I have a feeling the show won't ever touch on that aspect.

And that's kind of an issue because none of the main cast has been personally affected by the exterminations. None of them had a family member, lover, or friend that they lost to this. No mention of a close encounter or trauma they are suffering from this ruthless killings. Out of the entire hotel's main cast, Charlie is the only one who is supposedly affected by this. And she is pardoned from such a fate, along with her family members.

And yeah, Sir Pentious "died" from one of these exterminations, but he went to Heaven. So none of the main cast had to truly deal with a loss.

Look I know Vaggie is the most boring character in the history of ever but she also fits the bill as someone on the main cast who has been directly effected and traumatized by the exorcists and purges. It's literally her entire character. What very little she has.

Except that they don't really address that with her either. Her being an exorcist is mostly just a backdrop for her. We get a small 10 second flashback scene of the trauma she has from training when she was an exorcist in season 2, but it just brings up questions for season 1 that lead to confusion. Like you think she would be a bit reluctant to fight against the people she was once for, but she seems perfectly fine with it. In fact, one could say she was happy to.
